Sydney ferries, leaving from Circular Quay below the train station there, are the ideal way to combine getting to places, such as the zoo, Darling Harbour, and Manly, with marvellous views of the harbour itself. No need for cruises when the ferries themselves can take you to most of the harbour and harbourside places you want to go. Given the beauties of Sydney's harbour location, and the convenience also of the ferries, trips by ferry should be at the top of everyone's list of "what to do in Sydney".

I live on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico and we have a dreadfull ferry system...but let me tell you...if you do not know what to do just get on any of these ferries and go somewhere...there are many interesting stops and places to visit and spend the day...it is cheap and very enjoyable...the ferries are on time, clean and comfortable...enjoy the day

Without doubt the best way to see the Harbour, and great value. Manly is a great suburb to spend the day in, with lots of cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as a superb beach.

The ferry takes you right past the Opera House and if you go to Manly at Sunset, the sun is right behind the Harbour Bridge, providing superb photo opportunities.

You might even get lucky and see whales near the heads.

We bought a one day pass for $22 which proved to be great as we went from Darling Harbour to Circular quay then on to Manley. The only thing is the day isn't long enough to do all you want to do, after we got back from Manly we went to Cockatoo Island - worth a visit but it is not what you expect. It is an Island where prisoners were kept, then turned into a naval shipyard.

$2.50 per day for seniors to travel on bus/ferry/train - what a great deal! I recommend all major cities have the same thing!
