Holiday Inn Darling Harbour
Ranked #87 of 186 Hotels in Sydney
Reviewed 11 February 2014

Last weekend my partner and I stayed at Holiday Inn Darling Harbour for our 5 year anniversary. It was my first time in Sydney so we wanted to stay some place central so we could enjoy the sights and restaurants. The location was great and the price was reasonably decent for the location. It is just outside darling harbour, in china town, but only a very short walk to the harbour's centre and only a 30 minute walk to the Rocks (sounds a long way but we did it a few times). The Inn itself is not very impressive, the staff were a little slow and unenthusiastic which made checking in a bit of a drag. In addition to this, our shower leaked through the wall into the carpet near the entrance leaving a very large damp spot in the room. After we reported it, it took ages to get someone to look at it and after that the water spot or the leak wasn't fixed and we weren't offered a change of room...pretty slack. The rooms are pretty run down and in need of a fix up. On the whole I was not that impressed, but if you are happy with an average place to stay with a great location it will serve your purposes.

This hotel is tired and the service was slow and unremarkable. Location is good with easy stroll to darling harbour, across the road from the Sydney Entertainment Centre and Paddys Markets. I wouldn't stay again though - there are plenty of better 4-star options.

Stayed at this great location one night, whilst in Sydney to see a show at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
Had a great meal in Shipley's restaurant, seafood buffet excellent value if you are an in house guest $39.95 otherwise $69.95 if you walk in off the street, either way excellent value, in this part of town.
Had a couple of drinks in the hotel bar after the show, good value drinks, snacks and great service.
Great room with excellent amenities, free Wi-Fi excellent bathroom and lovely beds with a range of pillows.
The staff are extremely helpful and work hard to make your stay a good experience.
Make sure you have your parking sorted out when booking as this is a very busy part of town, with limited valet parking, when booking try and organise this, with the hotel.
I had an issue with parking and Francisco Vasconcellos was most helpful in rectifying my situation, explaining in great detail the issues the hotel face with parking in this part of town, which I now fully understand and thank Francisco and the team for their solution to my problem.
We will be back to stay at the Holiday Inn soon and can recommend this hotel, great location, safe area and handy to all Darling Harbour has to offer.
A great safe retreat in a bustling city.
Thank you.

Stayed here for two nights as a base during our honeymoon. Good location, nice bar, nice clean rooms. Would recommend as a base for exploring Sydney. Not exactly on Darling Harbour - so don't be disappointed, but short walk away. Close to china town though with lots of delicious restaurants!

I would stay here again - it's close to china town, the aquarium, and I walked from the Sydney Opera house. The rooms were fine, bed as comfortable as every other Holiday Inn, but the staff were excellent and very helpful.

The breakfast buffet was expensive ($30ish) , and didn't open til 6:30, which when you are jet lagged and up at 4 is a bit late. I would recommend you walk up the street and good less expensive food elsewhere.

It has a nice little gym that I stretched in after my run, and there was even a hot tub!

Being in the hear of Sydney CBD made it an ideal choice. rooms are comfortable but expensive. Breakfast was just about OK. Proximity to Town hall and Central station was helpful. Evening you could go to Darling harbor or Chinatown, or theater all very close, also lots of great eating places around. Gym is small but useful for workout.

Room Tip: room behind are much peaceful, though without a view

Took the family to Sydney for the Australia Day long weekend and booked this from other reviews i had read. It is difficult to find a hotel that provides 2x Queen size beds in the same room for parents and young children. There are a couple but not many. I really didn't want to spend alot of money in accommodation because let's face it the more you are away from a hotel the better the time you are having. Well this place ticked all of the boxes. It was conveniently located. A short 400m stroll to George st and you have the free shuttle bus service (Route 555) running to and from the Quay all day between Central Station and Circular Quay with approx. 10min gap between each service so getitng into the city is no problem. Or a short walk to Central Station or Town Hall Station. Check in was fast and efficient. When i booked i asked for a room located high up & away from the street. Being opposite the Entertainment Centre i was afraid there would be alot of noise - we received a room on the 8th Floor (#833) & luckily for us there were no events on this weekend. When in the room it was very quiet so i doubt we would of heard anything anyhow. The 2 beds in the room were huge and the array of pillows impressive (firm and soft). We all slept very comfortably. The room was clean and the shower had great pressure. The room was large'ish and we didn't feel cramped in the room. The aircon worked a treat also. We ate at Shipley's bistro each morning and each morning we were greeted by Mandy who was always friendly and willing to help out. The full buffet breakfast was superb with none of us going hungry & fuelling the four us at the beginning of our day and just about everything you could want in a satisfying breakfast was catered for. The price was right, the location is great, the service of all staff was fantastic. Highly recommend this as a place to stay if you have children. We hope to be back real soon and thanks Holiday Inn for a great family holiday.
