A true five star experience. From check in to check out. All the bells and whistles including a complimentary bottle of wine, turn down service, chocolate, state of the art bathroom facilities and more. I have a great view and only a 500m walk to some of Sydney's newest restaurants and bars.

Rooms are small. Service was good. Also took a $300 deposit, which they have not returned yet 4 working days later. I'm surprised when they settle the bill at check out they don't deduct the deposit from the remainder of the bill, but instead charge you again the room cost, which in my case was $200. So then you have paid out $500. Very convenient for their cash flow I'm sure.

I have stayed at many Hiltons across the globe and have to say this one is delightful. Its a busy hotel, but right in the middle of Sydney, great access to all of the sights and shopping, including being able to walk to Circular Quay and the Opera House. Glass, the restaurant is fabulous, from breakfast through to dinner, and is in a great part of the hotel overlooking the formidable Queen Victoria Building. Staff are really hospitable and friendly, from the reception, to the bar, to the restaurant to the concierge. Hilton are getting it right with this one. Rooms are spacious, light and airy. Gym is in the basement but is well equipped and not too busy. I would highly recommend it, especially to visitors to Sydney who want to take in the sights. I stayed for 5 nights on business but would happily stay here for a vacation.

I actually live in the Sydney Metropolitan area, but I stayed here for one night as I had a function in the city. Everything was outstanding, from the check-in experience onwards.I was upgraded to a room on the top floor which had great views as well as being spotlessly clean, very comfortable and quiet for a room in the centre of the city. I also received a complimentary small bottle of wine.I did not have time for the buffet breakfast , but the pool and exercise area is also fantastic.I would highly recommernd this hotel asnd rate it in the toop 20% of Hiltons I've stayed in.

Room Tip: High floor away from the lift areas.

I've stayed at the Hilton a few times now. The best deals are always mid week. The facilities are great, the service very good. The rooms have good facilities, and room service is great. I usually don't finish up at work until midnight when staying in sydney and so far the Hilton room service is the best of the lot for after hours selection. Just an added benefit, they have shower TV's how any one gets anything done, I don't know!

If you live in Sydney but haven't stayed in the Hilton, you would probably think that the hotel is one of the more impressive five star offerings in the city. The management have spared little effort in positioning the hotel's bars and restaurants at the top end of the market, no doubt helped along by the fact that the flagship Glass Brasserie is overseen by Luke Mangan, of Virgin Australia and Singapore Airlines fame. Unfortunately, the guest rooms and leisure facilities - while of a decent 4-star standard - do not live up to the hype.

Check-in:

I arrived to check-in at the middle of the day. There was a queue of people waiting to be served, but only one person behind the counter serving. She had to run 'backstage' to get more people to come out to assist. When served, check-in was efficient and friendly. I was informed that I had been upgraded to a deluxe room, which was a pleasant surprise, especially considering I was not a HHonors member.

Room:

I was assigned a room on the 30th floor. My first reaction was: 'if this is a deluxe room, what are the standard rooms like?!' The entrance corridor featured stark white tiles, reminiscent of a Fitness First changing room. The bedroom area was small (but not too small), carpeted with a bold blue/green carpet, and had two small rectangular windows looking out to the northern CBD (but can't blame the management for the building's lack of larger windows). The 'king' bed was actually two singles pushed together, and although the bed linen was of typical 5-star standard, it could not cover up the fact of an uncomfortable mattress. The desk was of a reasonable size with a comfortable executive chair.

Bathroom:

The bathroom was reasonably large relative to the size of the room, and featured a stand-alone shower, but no bath. Very clean. The fittings were modern, but nothing remarkable about the design/decoration - good 4-star rather than 5-star. Relieved to see the 'shower' was not a shower head on top of a bath tub, but if you are the type who likes a good soak, then you'll be disappointed. Amenities are Peter Thomas Roth - nice fragrance but you'll want to bring your own shampoo/conditioner if quality concerns you.

Health/leisure facilities:

Beware. Not sure what the actual business arrangement is here, but the health club is operated by what appears to be a third party called 'Living Well'. It is located in the basement (so dark and no natural light) and accessed by hotel guests through a door from the hotel lift lobby, while members of the gym enter from another door facing Pitt St. There's a sign in the lift lobby asking guests to sign a registration slip to enter, but there didn't seem to be anything to stop you from not bothering with this and just entering (by swiping your room card).

The pool is large and clean with designated lanes for children, slow swimmers and fast swimmers. There are two saunas, two steam rooms, one jacuzzi and a couple of lounge chairs with comfy cushions. Not bad for a quick freshen up but you wouldn't want to lounge here for any period of time: it's quite claustrophobic because of the basement setting with its lack of natural light. Also, the fittings are rather dated and peeling at the edges, so it feels like the place hasn't been updated for a couple of decades.

Breakfast:

I deliberately booked a rate that included breakfast because I had heard good things about the Hilton breakfast. There are indeed some excellent points: fantastic range of freshly squeezed juice (including juice 'shots'); excellent French-standard, freshly-baked pastries; top-quality range of hot and cold food made from premium ingredients (you can definitely tell). On the negative side, I was hoping to be seated near the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking George St and the Queen Victoria Building, but it seemed like the staff wanted to cram people into the inner part of the dining room near the kitchen counter. Secondly, the wait staff were VERY young and while that isn't a problem in itself, they were a bit forgetful and lacked polish.

Conclusion:

There's nothing wrong with the Hilton, but I give it three stars because it prices itself as a 5* hotel but then doesn't follow through with quality. If looking again for a hotel of a similar standard and in a similar location to the Hilton, I would instead pick the Swissotel or the Westin.

Room Tip: Rooms on the north side face the CBD, rooms on the south side face Town Hall and Chinatown.

Thank you for reviewing the Hilton Sydney on Trip Advisor.

I truly regret that the hotel did not meet your expectations, however, I am delighted to read that the bars and restaurants are to your liking. Your comments regarding LivingWell Health Club have been noted, and I would like to inform you that the health club is operated by the Hilton Sydney and not an external party.

Once again, thank you for your detailed feedback and I do hope you will give us another opportunity to welcome you sometime in the future.

A large hotel in the heart of the city. My group arrived in a chartered coach and there was no way the coach could pull into the front door of the hotel and handling the baggage was a mess.
It is across the road from the Town Hall underground station, but just note that the station is not really directly below the town hall.

The rooms are all new and well appointed, but like so many of the new Hiltons aesthetics were put ahead of function. I stayed in a regular room and in a corner room and both had nice glass desks without a power point near them. (they did provide a universal adaptor which was a nice touch, but there was just no where convenient to plug it in.) The rooms are compact, perhaps even on the small side The executive club offered a nice breakfast and very nice drinks and canapes.

There clearly is an issue with the minibar system. I was charged multiple times for the minibar which I had not used. At checkout they were happy to adjust the bill, but the system clearly needs some work. The key system for the elevator may enhance security, but it was a major source of confusion. Often I observed people missing the floor they wanted after they pushed the button.

The glass restaurant has a wonderful selection for breakfast. If you pay for breakfast here you will want to have plenty of time to enjoy it.

If you will be using public transport to get around this is a great choice, otherwise I would consider some of the hotels in Darling Harbour or Circular Quay.
