“Great hotel, great location!”
Reviewed 17 May 2011

Stayed here for 6 nights the end of March with my adult son. The rooms were very nice, clean and modern. We had a room that was newly remodeled on an upper floor with a view of the Sydney Harbour. Since we arrived at about 10:00am our room was not ready. We had access to the 2nd floor lounge, to change and freshen up. They held our luggage and put it in our room when the room was ready, while we went out sightseeing for the day. Check in went quick and was easy.
We didn't eat in the hotel. There are several good coffee shops for coffee and breakfast all around the hotel. WiFi is not free, but McDonalds is only a block away and they have free WiFi.
We ate at a very nice Italian restaurant next to the hotel which was recommended by the concierge. It was small but the food was very good. They also have a gentleman playing the piano, nice atmosphere.
The location of this hotel is the best. Train, bus and ferries are all about a block away.
Sydney Harbour, The Rocks, the bridge, all walking distance. Many restaurants in the area.
I would definitely stay her again.

The Marriot is in a fabulous location, a short walk from circular quay and ferries to various locations in Sydney. We walked everywhere during our stay.

We had a corner room which overlooked the city, it was very roomy, huge in fact. The room was spotless and the bathroom was immaculate (it looked like had recently been renovated).

In conclusion we would definetely stay there again if we returned to Sydney.

We stayed at the Marriott Harborside for one week while enjoying Sydney. We were on the 27th floor with a view of the Harbor Bridge. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated with a king bed, one sitting chair/foot rest and a desk chair. There was a wardrobe for hanging clothes but very little in the way of drawers. Only one that I took the hairdryer from that we used for folded clothing. There was no door on the shower only a glass wall extending about halfway so water splashed on the floor or the person standing at the sink when the shower is running. The curtains crossed in the middle to keep the room dark in the early morning hours. Internet is free for elite members. The executive lounge is open daily for breakfast and evening hors d’oeuvres. Coffee, tea, sodas, and water are available during the day as well. A renovation began on May 2 so the lounge will be closed for several weeks. In lieu of the lounge we were given breakfast buffet vouchers and 25% off dinner if we chose to dine in the restaurant. There was also a two-hour window 5:30 – 7:30 in the area outside the restaurant where staff served canapés and drinks. The executive lounge staff was wonderful – Mariam, Kristiana, Sally, Rosalee (very tasty Bloody Mary)! The Marriott is only a two minute walk away from Circular Quay where we boarded the ferry and buses to get pretty much everywhere we wanted to go. It was the perfect location to explore Sydney.

Location, new refurbed rooms, location and location. This Marriott is great. Sure the staff have the same issue you will find with most locals in Sydney - "I'm to good to be working in a hotel and you are not important", but the property more than makes up for it. If you are staying in Sydney ignore the other TripAdvisor suggestions, this is where you want to stay. For Sydney it is well priced and the rooms are very plush and upper floors have good views on both sides. Concierge is ultra helpful and the trinket shop inside has decent stuff and the guy running it loves to bargain so you can get better prices than out on the street.

For tourists, I suggest using the ferries to see Sydney. The Manly ferry allows you to see all the harbour and good views of the opera house. Walk the park up the hill from the Marriott for great views, good greenscape, and to meet others. If you are a solo traveler there are several others walking around looking for someone to take a pic, have a bite with, or just get to know someone new with casual chat. The park is great for this.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor.

I have stayed in many Marriott hotels around the world, and I would certainly rank the Circular Quay property in the top six or seven in my experience. The lobby simply exudes a trendy, modern feel with some period surroundings to reflect the historical area. It is not far from the ferry terminal and the Sydney Opera House.

Rooms are decorated in a comfortable, modern style with flat-screen TVs, glasstop work space, and the legendary Marriott bedding. Bright, big windows offered me a view of the bridge and the harbour. The housekeeping staff should be complimented. The public areas, the concierge lounge, and my room were virtually spotless. All the staff I encountered were efficient and professional. From check-in to nightcaps, everyone seemed genuinely concerned about the guest experience. A service manager even approached and asked questions on the elevator one afternoon.

The lobby's Macquarie Lounge serves what must be some of the world's most expensive drinks, but you have to admit the surroundings are world-class. Tourists, business travelers, and air crews from the four corners of the world come and go around the clock. Even on the busiest of weekdays, though, the hotel's atmosphere is very relaxing. Outside of lunch at the lounge and the usual breakfast and appetizers in the concierge lounge, I failed to take advantage of the kitchen's skills.

The Circular Quay Marriott is a premium property in a premium location, but I would suggest keeping an eye on specials. Whether romance, finance, or anything in between, this place can serve as a wonderful venue. You can feel right at home.

As far as a Marriott goes, this one is appropriate for its location- slightly upscale for a prime location in a fantastic city. The service at the door and reception was friendly and efficient. We had a number of Marriott gift cards in USA$ to use at check-out, and the staff handled the hassle of many gift cards in a foreign currency as if it was no bother. The room was large enough, clean and with nice and comfortable furniture. The bathroom was well-appointed and roomy. The views from the room were excellent. The location cannot be beat for a tourist- right near Circular Quay. You can easily walk to many, many tourist sites, and the public transportation (ferries, buses, trams) were a block away, so getting anywhere in Sydney was a breeze. I would stay here again.

I have been staying from May 1st until May 9th and my sister is still there until may 20th. We are platinum member and we were told at our arrival that the hotel is renovating and the lounge is not accessible. What a surprise, they did not tell at the time of our reservation if not, we would stay at another Marriott. The second surprise is we were told that there is a light snack from 5:30PM to 7:30PM but when we arrive at 7:00Pm, staffs told that there is not more food. Everything is closed. Not really convenient. The next day, on all of the following day, when we came down the 2nd floor at 6:00PM, there is no more place. I was told to squeeze in near the hall if I wanted a place. What a service, this is not what we call a 5 stars hotel. I am so disappointed and many more incident happened during my stay (example: luggage that takes at least 25 minutes before it gets to my room, i could of bring them myself. I have to call the bell desk to make sure they did not forget . Actually, I think they did etc...). Besides the service not that great, the reception desk (some of the employee seems to not really appreciate we ask questions. Not all but some of the employees.) were not responding fully to our questions. I was one of the worst stay at the Marriott I had. We did complain (to the staff that was on duty of our concerned) but nothing was done since they do not seems to care by responding " I will mention it to my boss" but the following day, nothing was taking care. We are on vacation and we want to enjoy our stay in Sydney. The only positive part is that we got upgraded for our room since we have insisted to have an upgrade.
