I stayed here for a week with my family. The staff were so kind and helpful. They could not do enough for you. The breakfast was amazing. We also loved the bar and their restaurants. The gym and pool area is great too. Only the outside deck is bit basic and on the small side. I would definitely stay here next time.

Room Tip: higher rooms have great views.

The hotel room was great, very comfortable bed and with a great view of both the bridge and the Opera house. Ours was a Deluxe Grand Harbour view room, each room has a different view. The hotel is well located in The Rocks, and even though it is up a hill it is close to everything. Staff were friendly and helpful, although our room keys firstly stopped working the afternoon of our first day, then one wouldn't work in the lift later the same day. The reason for taking off one ratings point was due to the appalling room service meal I had. I ordered the Thai style chicken burger with lemongrass and coriander, neither flavour seemed to have been anywhere near the burger. The patty itself was dry and tasteless, and given the price of the meal it was extremely disappointing. I can't figure out how a good hotel with presumably good chefs can provide quality meals in their restaurants yet be completely unable to do a simple burger for room service. So stay at the hotel but give room service a miss!

Room Tip: Deluxe Grand Harbour view room has a view of both the bridge and the Opera house

Very pleasant stay (1 night). Friendly and helpful staff, spotless room, a gorgeous view of the Harbour, and an extremely comfortable bed. What more could you need?

Breakfast was delicious with lots of variety. A little expensive at $45 though.

to put it simply our 30th wedding was totally ruined by our stay. had to queue 3 separate times on check in. finally in our room, no one to escort or point out room spec to us, luggage arrived sometime later. down to lobby bar for snack, both our choices unavailable, choose again ,took forever although only a handful of customers. off for a swim, litter in pool and plastic cups floating, saw 3 staff no one attended to it.out on sun deck were heaps of biting ants.forget that. change and go to bar on 36. great expectations were crushed as we were told we could not have a window seat as we didn't book. this was surprising as other reviewers say they were told no bookings are taken. the room was 1/3 full and walk in customers could be seen. previously i was told by staff that bar was for hotel guests only, obviously not.! drink was delicious, i say drink because staff disappeared and we only had one in 45 minutes.
the best decision we made was NOT to dine at altitude and go over to guillaume. expecting a nice sleep as checkout at 11. no such luck as housekeeping came in just after 8 am and rudely
woke us. should have let them in to service room as there was tea only and no milk. did not even receive a "happy anniversary" message from staff, so i don't know how other reviewers scored cake/wine/upgrade. you know why they oil the squeeky wheel, maybe i should have complained. apparently this is the place to go if you want a view with a price, but service, amenities and relaxation, no. reviewers say its the little things that make a 5 star hotel and i throughly agree.

Used the Shangri-la as a base for our daughters wedding. Great views from all three rooms, excellent service and very enjoyable de-briefing over high quality breakfast. Very happy to recommend this hotel, and it is favourably comparable to other high class hotels.
