We love this Hotel, the location, views, service, food, all top notch. We treat ourselves and stay here for a night to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries and have never been let down.

Highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Go for the Grand Harbour view room on the Horizon level, spectacular!

With accommodation elsewhere (still welcome) we visited the bar and chatted to people staying at the Shang. They had no complaints, minor grumbles about faded glory, but also no view. We got there bang on opening time but were not able to get a table, managed to grab a piece of window by the bar. Would have sat on the floor but the carpet was a bit yuck! We were thirsty too, having climbed up to it's lofty position over the rocks. Once again in Sydney, establishments with any sort of aspect are going to make you pay through the nose for it.

However this view is so stunning, you'll just hand over your wallet in a daze. On this beautiful day, the absolute pinnacle, unbeaten unless you climb the bridge. And don't leave your bit of window for a second. Grrrr.

I absolutely love this hotel, it is one of the best that I have stayed in world-wide and continue to stay regularly.

The staff are attentive and show genuine concern for your satisfaction.

The driveway team remember you and welcome you back.

The views are simply awesome and the rooms are large, modern and clean.

I highly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants luxury and awesome service.

If view is your number one criteria, book a Harbor View room here and call it a day. The view is spectacular, including the Harbor Bridge, Opera House and busy harbor. The rooms are nice, spacious, good bathrooms, pretty much what you'd expect.

But there were so many little annoyances with the hotel that I wouldn't come back again. First, the elevators. The hotel just doesn't have enough elevators to handle the traffic. You often wait several minutes to catch an elevator, then you stop endlessly going up or down to pick up others that are waiting for a lift. Then the elevator gets full and it still stops, but no one can get on. It's a few minutes coming and going, but so annoying.

Breakfast stinks. It's a massive buffet and I believe $44. Just want a couple scrambled eggs? $44. Or a bowl of cereal? $44. If you're staying there for a week for work and don't want a massive buffet every day (which is sub-par anyway) this is ridiculous. And it's not even a nice setting; it's packed with people and looks like some hotel banquet room. I ended up doing some room service, which is actually a little cheaper, or going to a cafe outside the hotel. Annoying.

The location is OK. It's a bit in the touristy area, which gets hit pretty hard as cruise ships come and go. If you don't *need* to be that central, I'd suggest finding somewhere in Paddington, Potts Point or Wollamaloo.

Room Tip: Rooms that end in 10 are the biggest Harbor View room. They have two doubles, but are actually more...

My wife & I decided to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary by staying at the Shangri-la and it was a fantastic experience to stay there. We couldn't fault anything. The Harbour view from our huge room is something we will always remember, along with the view from the 36th floor. Graeme & Michelle, Castle Hill.

Room Tip: Harbour view, King Bed

I am going to start with the positives -- the view, the view, the view! That is what makes this property special. If you are going to stay here, you must get a Harbor View room (at least Opera House facing).

The other main positive aspect of the hotel (besides a modern room and great views) is that it is a convenenient location to major attractions around the Rocks and Circular Quay. However, not as convenient if one wants to spend time in Surrey Hills or Paddington neighborhoods (both of which have plenty boutiques, cafes and restaurants).

The room is comfortable -- neutral decor, spacious bathroom, modern amenities. It is what you would expect from a chain like Shangri La. My main complaint on the room front is that we had requested a King bed and were told that we were assigned one...however, it was two beds joined together. I always hate it when hotels do this, and particularly disappointed on this front from a luxury chain like Shangri La.

The breakfast is expensive at the restaurant, if it is not included in your room rate. This was another big minus point for the Shangri La as far as I am concerned. I understand that one always pays more for breakfast in the hotel, but I was not expecting the rates that Shangri La charges. There is a cafe in the lobby where you can get some yogurt and croissants, but if you want eggs... it is either room service (overpriced too) or the restaurant's buffet breakfast.

The rooftop lounge is an absolute joke and the system is beyond crazy! If you are not there at 5:00 PM it is impossible to get a spot. No priority for hotel guests and the cocktails are also unbelievably expensive.

A special word of praise for Matthew. He was simply fantastic in terms of suggesting restaurants and venues. In terms of staff at the hotel, he truly stood out. Overall staff were always nice, but I felt they lacked that extra touch that makes your experience go from good to great. Also, the check-in and check-out process is a nightmare...long lines and endless amount of time involved. As many other reviewers have noted, Shangri La needs to get their systems on order on this front. It is the first and last impression that visitors have of the hotel and it can so often impact the experience.

I did use the pool several times during our stay and enjoyed having access to it. The spa looked lovely as well, but we did not use it.

Overall, not as impressed as other Shangri La properties I have stayed at or visited across the world.

Best hotel ever. I had previously stayed at the Shangri La which was a wonderful exprience so I booked a suprise weekend for my partners birthday. The lovely front desk staff upgraded us which made the weekend even more romantic. BEST VIEWS IN SYDNEY. The Horizon club is amazing and the food is spectacular. I cannot fault this hotel at all. All the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. Room Service was fantastic. Well worth the money, so treat yourself to the Horizon Club.

Room Tip: Book the Horizon club rooms. You wont regret it.
