The hotel was great, the breakfast was outstanding, but while every advertisement for the hotel shows the Opera House and the harbor, half the rooms (and the one we were first shown) face the back, called Darling Harbor. It looked to me like an overgrown swamp and hardly the iconic view we expected. After considerable communication with our agent, we were given a room over the "Grand Harbor" which was fine. Be sure to specify

Room Tip: Specify Grand Harbor view overlooking the Quay and Opera House

From the moment we walked through the door, our experience was nothing short of magical. Facilities, accommodation, food, beverages all excellent, but most of all the staff and service were exquisite!

Was at this hotel for a couple of meetings early February 2014. The hotel is very nice and the service is, as you would expect, outstanding. I had a very large room on 5th floor (519) and although it was supposed to be a room with Harbour view, I can verify that the only way I could get a peek of the harbour was by standing on my toes in the window sill.

If you get a room on a higher floor, this should be no problem. Also because this room can also accommodate a person in a wheel chair, showering was really messy. I basically had to scarify all my towels wiping the floor ever time I used it.

The two big Samsung TV's in that room are rather slow in operation, but very nice and clear picture.

Everything else was top notch.

Room Tip: If harbour view is important, make sure you get a room at a high floor. Otherwise the view will be other buildings and rooftops.

It was Mardi Gras weekend in Sydney and all hotel rooms were in high demand, so no bargains available. Having said that I found the Shangri la was a great choice - nice rooms, fantastically comfortable beds and well located. I was travelling with a group of female friends for a special occasion and we shared twin rooms, all on the Darling Harbour side, rather than the more expensive rooms with harbour views. Our views were still expansive and attractive, looking out over Darling Harbour, the new Barangaroo development, the Harbour Bridge and up the Parramatta River. The rooms were a good size, with window seats and pleasantly decorated in an oriental style, and the marble bathrooms were fitted with a good size bath and separate shower.
Location is great, close to the Opera House, the Rocks and an easy walk to the main CBD. There always seemed to be plenty of cabs waiting if you needed them .
The Blu bar on the 36th floor is well worth a visit - make sure you put your name down on arrival for a seat looking over the harbour as it gets very crowded. The views are spectacular!!
We didn't eat at the hotel, but in every other way I would certainly choose to stay again.

Stayed for a week in November.

A great Hotel centrally located in the Rocks.

Handy to several places to have a flutter on Melbourne Cup day although I didn't win anything.

Awesome bar on the top floor however great views from any room.

Well worth a look at if you need to stay somewhere in Central Sydney.
