This hotel was very nice and luxurious. But, we did not know that it sits on top of a hill. I have mobility problems due to arthritis and had I have known ahead of time that walking would be up and down hills I would not have picked this hotel. I wish someone mentioned this, so I am including this in my review. Otherwise the hotel is great with wonderful views.

I spent more than a week in this hotel and liked it very much. The hotel is in a nice part of Sydney, easy to walk downhill to the centre or harbour. The sights are very close by. There are nice restaurants close to the hotel or a short walk or drive away.
The room was clean, of standard size. Interesting views as being on a hill. Internet was available and working. The breakfast offered a good choice.
The only problematic part was the lobby, as it was usually crowded and that meant long waiting for the receptionist or concierge.
Overall, a nice hotel, but a bit on the expensive side.

We looked forward to staying at this hotel however our expectations were not met.

The rooms are spacious and clean but very cold. We had to call and ask for our luggage to be located and delivered.

Check in was OK. but staff not particularly friendly . We had an issue with our room and spoke to customer relations about the problem The customer relations person could not deal with the inquiry but to her credit she did call a manager.

The blu bar was great and the Altitude restaraunt was pretty good too.
The hotel is on a hill and there are quite a few steps to negotiate so if you are not very fit it may prove difficult.

There was something cool and impersonal about this hotel and I would not stay here again.

Such a lovely hotel the only downside was we only had a one night stay! Absolutely perfect location and would 100% recommend. We stayed in a premier grand harbour view room and I have never in all the amazing place we have been to had a view like it...it was almost surreal. The rooms were a little tatty in places but really not a problem as great size and all about the view. Great bar at the top too with views to die for also. I think it is the perfect place to stay if you are only in Sydney for a short visit as you walk outside and you are in the middle of everything. Just wish we had longer there.

Room Tip: get a premier grand harbour view room at least

The whole team at the Shangri-La went out of their way to make our stay for our 25th Wedding Anniversary something very special for us. They congratulated us and left a wonderful bottle of champaign and chocolates in our room upon arrival with an added congratulatory note. Nice touch it was.
The room had an amazing view over the harbour, which was fantastic. A huge thank you to the team for making our time a wonderful experience.

The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We stayed there for our 20yr anniversary and when we got to our room there was champagne and chocolates waiting for us. The hotel is very close to all the major shops and a short stroll to Circular Quay where you can catch a ferry to Manly and other sights.

Room Tip: Horizon Club pre dinner drinks and canapés are a must! Great views of Sydney Harbour and surrounds.

We have been Shangri-La guests all over the world for the past 30+ years...the Shangri-La in Sydney does not meet the standards!! The rooms are old, the decor of the hotel is hideous and the food is dreadful...the breakfast is more like something you would get at an out of the way, country motel. Add to this that the elevator system is so slow that you need to add 10 minutes to any journey to depart/arrive at the hotel and it all adds up to a very pedestrian hospitality experience...certainly not worthy of the Shangri-La name !!!
