My husband booked us into the Shangri-La for a one-night luxury staycation and it more than delivered! We booked an Opera House View Executive Suite and ended up getting room 2419 - a really big corner suite although the view of the Opera House was probably not quite what we expected. To see it, you had to sit on the sill of a window in the corner.

It amazes me how a hotel which has been around for such a long time and has such a churn of visitors is able to maintain facilities and fixtures so well. Either the place has been recently renovated or they just keep everything impeccably clean, but everything looked shiny and brand new! Small but noticeable touches that add to the luxuriousness of it all. Our suite had a large bathroom with a big tub and all the important amenities (complete with soft, fluffy, white bathrobes!). The mini-bar had everything and then some. Even two-minute noodles, which I just adore! The bed was big, the sheets and pillows were quality although the mattress was quite a lot softer than I like it.

We had a minor incident with the bath - after letting out the water, it began to bubble up out of a drain in the floor, eventually flooding the entire bathroom. We called room service and they promptly sent an engineer and the issue was soon fixed (or I assume it was, I didn't have another bath to check). I also noticed a vague damp smell in the suite as well as in the cafe downstairs where the breakfast buffet is. Nothing strong or enough to stop me from coming back again.

After a experiencing the incredible views over a cocktail at Blu Bar, followed by an appallingly bad dinner service at Altitude (so bad we left after the second course), we went back to our suite to order room service. The food was hearty, well-portioned and delicious!! And the breakfast buffet in the cafe on level 1 - just amazing! So many choices - highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Room 2419 is spacious but it's a corner suite on the south-side. The opera-house view is there b...

Spent one night for a staycation! Check-in staff were very friendly and room was everything we expected. The view is exceptional (even if windows were a bit dirty) and meant you could overlook the slightly scratched and dinted furniture. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom 10/10! Lots of attention to detail in the bath, including plenty of towels and little things like hair elastics and toothbrushes.

The Blu Horizon Bar was a little disappointing ... we couldn't get up just before 17:00, only to find all the best seats gone by 17:03! Furthermore the 'no kids' rule seems to be on paper only. Staff not as friendly there as in rest of the hotel.

The gym was great ... had everything you would want for a quick workout.

Room-service was pretty perfect. Pumpkin pizza tasty, chips ok ... could have been a bit crispier. Dessert ... PERFECT! The chocolate fondue was heavenly. Whilst not hot chocolate, the chocolate sauce remained 'soft' for hours and the homemade marshmallow and macaroons were unbelievably yummy, as was the honeycomb and cinnamon churrios. Absolute pleasure!

Room Tip: Any room facing the Harbour Bridge and opera House. Even level 7 was fantastic.

Located within walking distance to the public facilities i.e restaurants, shopping centre and the iconic Opera House, we find that All the staff are very helpful and friendly during our stay :) we had the stunning Opera house view room which not only spacious but also having a touch of elegance and classic feels to it. We are coming from a tropical place so 10 degrees would be a bit problem if we want to go out for dinner with our 10 years old daughter and an infant therefore we decided to have in room dining for the first night. We didn't regret it! Infact we were always having dinner in our Hotel since the food and the service are GREAT! A man named Rafat was really nice and warm hearted, the lady from the reception named Lorena was also helpful and patient during our check out process :) All the staff are just amazing with our lil ones! What can I say more except "See you again next year Shangrila!"

We stayed in the Shangri-La just over 2 years ago and had amazing a spacious room with Sydney Opera House/Circular Quay/Easterly Sydney harbour views. Stunning! You just did not want to leave the window seat.

So this time were initially a little disappointed with a westerly view room on the 22nd floor. Pretty good water views & we looked along the Sydney Harbour Bridge towards the North Sydney buildings and down onto the ramp to the harbour bridge. However our disappointment subsided as the sunset was just amazing to watch and found we enjoyed looking at the cars & buses below, especially the lights late at night crossing the harbour bridge. Indeed I did the same the following morning when I found myself looking at the dawn sky, over the bridge to North Sydney & the light on the water. We loved the long window seat.

Spacious room with plenty of room for bags and good storage cupboards (we spent 2 nights in total). Great large marble shower & bathroom with Villeroy & Boch sanitary ware. Good sized working areas if you were there for work.

The complimentary shoe shine was a special touch that we both used on different nights. They were delivered at exactly 8.30am as promised.

We stayed in the Shangri-La on the evening of our 10th anniversary. My partner mentioned it was a special occasion when checking in & they delivered a bottle of French bubbly & chocolates to our room. This, and the shoeshine, are very nice & personal touches for such a large hotel chain - thank you!

Room Tip: Dont be disappointed with a westerly room as they have sunset views!

i booked a city/opera house view room on WOTIF for around $380. although the flight from wellington gets into sydney at 8.30am, i went straight to the hotel to check in (you never know!) they offered me a room right away on a 'lower floor' but i decided to wait for something higher in a couple of hours' time. i was able to use the gym on the 2nd floor to freshen up and of course the concierge looked after my bags. i walked down to circular quay and had an early lunch/late breakfast, before getting the text that my [20th] floor room was ready.

my view was awesome and the staff friendly and courteous. i loved the surplus of bath towels and the turndown service at night was a lovely surprise. did you know the hotel has a library??? that's a bookmark on my turndown :)

the next morning i headed for the breakfast buffet ($42). it's completely overwhelming! a yoghurt bar, a pastry bar, a fruit bar; chefs on hand to make eggs ANY way you want and a mini menu that included waffles and french toast. you name it, it was there! the coffee took a while to arrive - they were super busy and if you want a table by the window - get there early!

i also tried the cafe on the ground floor which features some lovely tasty treats and the coffee was good too.

GREAT STAY.

Room Tip: book the room you want. there are clear and obvious options for this when booking online.

Higher end property but the views are some of the best views over Sydney harbour but you must select the right room I guess. There was some pre arrival communication problems but we enjoyed it. The buffet was nice & the Horizon Club was good to make use of.

Room Tip: Pay more gets the best room views.
