We always stay at the beautiful Shangri-La's worldwide and we are just amazed that they keep the high quality standard of service and high quality facilities wherever we go.

This hotel is just another example of perfect Shangri-La quality. Bravo!

Room Tip: Go with the $1M view of the harbour

We wanted to spoil ourselves and decided to go to the Shangri-La in Sydney for the weekend. We opted for the Deluxe Harbour View room, and we ended up on the 17th floor overlooking Sydney Harbour in all its glory. We couldn't have been happier with the room we were given.

It was immaculate and well maintained. The bed was comfortable and the pillows lovely and soft.

I could rave on about this place because it was all so good. Even down to there being a problem on our bill after we had settled. I contacted them and they have sorted it and organised a refund already.

If I could make one minor criticism, it was that we were interrupted at 8.45 on the first morning by the housekeeping wanting to clean our room. I felt this was a bit early to start ringing the doorbell. Anyway, as I said, minor.

Do yourself a favour and stay here when you are looking for somewhere special to spend your time.

Room Tip: Go for the Harbour View rooms, and ask them for the highest floor you can get for your money.

We stayed in room 3007 right next to the Horizon lounge. We arrived early and they worked hard to get us into a room early since we had come off of a 15.5 hour flight. The views in this room were awesome - 270 degrees including Darling Harbor, Sydney Harbor bridge and also the Opera House, all unobstructed. It was tough to get up from a windowsill perch in the bedroom, it was mesmerizing to sit in the sun and just watch all the boats and sailboats pass by, and the busy traffic passing over the bridge (a nice reminder of how lucky we were to be on vacation rather than commuting to work!).

Horizon lounge was excellent - great service every single day, all the drinks and food you can eat both in the morning and evening. Very attentive staff in the lounge. Location was perfect in the heart of the Rocks, a short walk to everything.

Gym was not amazing but definitely adequate.

Overall, this hotel was a perfect home base for travelers who plan to be busy with leisure activities or with business while in Sydney.

Got updraded mid week to a harbour view suite which had 270 degree views of the harbour. There was a leather bench in front of the window which made looking at the view perfect. The view was so good we had room service dinner in the room ,best restaurant ever!

Stayed in a Opera House view room during the Vivid Light festival and the show was spectacular. Very short walk to the Rocks and all it has to offer. Room was clean and spacious. Hotel staff were pleasant. It was a pleasant no fuss stay.

Room Tip: Opera house view room.

My partner and I stayed here for one night and were considering extending our stay but the hotel didn't hold up to the standard one would expect from a 5 star hotel.
The elevator was extremely loud all night and kept us awake until 5am, the bottom sheet on our bed had a stain/mark on it, there was no toiletries and the worst was even though we had the do not disturb on someone entered our room while we were sleeping.
Only ok thing about the hotel was the view but you can get that at other Sydney hotels.

My husband booked us into the Shangri-La for a one-night luxury staycation and it more than delivered! We booked an Opera House View Executive Suite and ended up getting room 2419 - a really big corner suite although the view of the Opera House was probably not quite what we expected. To see it, you had to sit on the sill of a window in the corner.

It amazes me how a hotel which has been around for such a long time and has such a churn of visitors is able to maintain facilities and fixtures so well. Either the place has been recently renovated or they just keep everything impeccably clean, but everything looked shiny and brand new! Small but noticeable touches that add to the luxuriousness of it all. Our suite had a large bathroom with a big tub and all the important amenities (complete with soft, fluffy, white bathrobes!). The mini-bar had everything and then some. Even two-minute noodles, which I just adore! The bed was big, the sheets and pillows were quality although the mattress was quite a lot softer than I like it.

We had a minor incident with the bath - after letting out the water, it began to bubble up out of a drain in the floor, eventually flooding the entire bathroom. We called room service and they promptly sent an engineer and the issue was soon fixed (or I assume it was, I didn't have another bath to check). I also noticed a vague damp smell in the suite as well as in the cafe downstairs where the breakfast buffet is. Nothing strong or enough to stop me from coming back again.

After a experiencing the incredible views over a cocktail at Blu Bar, followed by an appallingly bad dinner service at Altitude (so bad we left after the second course), we went back to our suite to order room service. The food was hearty, well-portioned and delicious!! And the breakfast buffet in the cafe on level 1 - just amazing! So many choices - highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Room 2419 is spacious but it's a corner suite on the south-side. The opera-house view is there b...
