Novotel Sydney Central is very convenient. It is literally around the corner from Railway Square. Next door is a 5 storey carpark, which costs $15 per day on a weekend. And up the street is Chinatown.

I came for 3 days of seminars - I was at a property seminar, next door was a dental seminar. There was a permanent coffee station with Netscape coffee and various teas. At morning and afternoon tea, delicious cakes and fruit magically appeared at the coffee station. One evening we had a cocktail party, and bartenders magically appeared as did some good finger food.

The seminar room was comfortable, soundproofed and worked well.

On Sunday morning the foyer and breakfast room was full, which means that the breakfasts must be good.
Next time, I might stay over.

On a weekend trip to Sydney with my daughter, I booked us into the Novotel Sydney Central mostly because of the location, just a short walk from the central station (plus because her mother had left the choice of weekend so late that there were not so many hotels in my proce range still with rooms).

Check-in staff were very friendly and helpful, and we got to our room very quickly.

Good points: Room was a good size, with two comfortable queen-size beds, a Flat-screen TV, large wardrobe, and a small but very well-equipped bathroom. And the whole place was very clean.

Bad points: Most of the furniture in the room was covered in white laminate, and almost every piece was rather battered, with extensively chipped edges, and in a couple of cases entire pieces of laminate missing. I was informed when booking that all the rooms had been refurbished, and it did seem that way, except for the furniture - perhaps they were waiting for a delivery? It did not detract from the comfort of the room, it just didn't look very nice.

Also, although there was a large wardrobe, there were no drawers which would have enabled us to unpack a bit more.

Extra blankets and pillows were available at the top of the wardrobe, (didn't need them as we set the room air-conditioning to a decent temperature) and there was also a service where we could get any of a number of alternative pillows from housekeeping if we needed them.

Room had the usual hot-drink-making equipment and suppllies, plus a mini-bar with a small selection of drinks and snacks (highly priced but that is to be expected in a city-centre hotel).

We didn't have time to use them, but the hotel also had a Gym and a pool for guest use.

Breakfast was the usual help-yourself buffet arrangement, and was of reasonable quality. I have had better.

Dinner on the Friday night we had in the hotel's own restaurant and it was pricey, but very nice, and our waitress was exceptionally friendly and helpful. So many thanks to her for helping to make our stay an enjoyable one.

On our last day we checked out in the morning and left our luggage with reception while we went out exploring. In the evening we picked it up then got a taxi to the airport. Yet again thank you to the staff, this time the lady at reception who was very helpful in arranging a taxi for us.

Having staff like that in a hotel makes a big difference to the quality of the stay, and the Novotel Sydney Central has some of the best I have encountered in many years of international travelling.

All they need to do is replace that battered furniture, and they will get a higher score next time.

It was nice to have a pool in the hotel, hot tub was a bit coolish but clean. Hotel was clean, staff were pleasant and location was central with only steps from Central Station and George St. Minimal selection of restaurants around the hotel, hotel restaurant a bit pricey. Nice to have 2 Queen size beds for 4 people. Negative was, we booked on line to pay with credit card on check out, upon check out we were told there would be a 1.5% credit card charge on our whole bill as 1 beer and telephone call had been charged to our room. After discussing with them I did book on line to avoid the credit card fee they waved the fee, this could have been a costly charge after staying for 5 nights. I also don't understand why internet to guests is so expensive, it should be free for guests.
