“What a great place to stay.”
Reviewed 1 September 2014

My Husband and I stayed at MGallery Harbour Rocks on Saturday August 23, 2014. I have never stayed in a hotel (4 1/2 Star) that was so restful. No big reception area, not a lot of chairs, but, oh so warm and welcoming. The small bar is right near reception. We had booked our car into the Clocktown Wilsons carpark prior to arriving, the carpark is opposite the hotel, $40 for a day 2.pm to 2pm the next day,pre-booked on Wilsons site. The staff were friendly and helpful. One thing to know is there is no lift to the three stories, help is available with luggage. We had a suite facing Harrington Street in what had been an old terrace, no noise and very comfortable. We had breakfast in the restaurant although small the service is great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, it is close to the International Ship terminal (cruisers note) and very near the markets and shops. All in all a great stay and have booked to stay again in October pre-cruise.

We held a 2 day onsite conference here for our Regional Directors, utilising the restaurant, the bar, the boardroom and several different sized bedrooms.
First off, the staff couldn't have been more helpful, friendly and accomodating. Amanda was great in the lead up to our event making me confident that all would run to schedule. We had to do a few last minute change arounds of the boardroom but it wasn't a problem and all staff who were in the dining room were happy to assist. Amanda went out of her way and was constantly available for the duration of our stay.
The decor of the hotel is modern and the lobby area is also a great sitting area.
The food was fantastic! We had breakfast, lunch and morning/afternoon tea here at the hotel. The menu was varied, food was tasty and fresh and everyone in our party commented how great it was.
The bar is welcoming and has a good selection of drinks and snacks. We has drinks here prior to going out for dinner....then a few of us also stopped off for nightcaps on our return! The bar also has a fantastic choice of happy hour drinks and isn't the usual Sauv Blanc/Chardonnay (which I hate!).
The rooms we booked were of differing sizes but all were extremely clean. My room was small but you don't come to a location like this to sit in your hotel bedroom! The only comment I could add would be that it would have been nice to open the beautiful sash windows in my bedroom and bathroom a little.
Overall the hotel was welcoming, relaxed and friendly. It was great to hold an event at a hotel with character, as opposed to the soulless feeling often experienced in the large hotel chains.
We would definitely return here as a company and I would recommend the hotel to my family and friends without hesitation.

This is the perfect date night hotel. With just one "evening-pass" away from the children, we drove to the city for a dinner and a night out. The Harbour Rocks Hotel was perfect. It was a great walking distance to coffee, bars and immediately immersed us in feeling a part of the city vibe. Plus the hotel offers free parking.

Rooms are small. But once you understand that this building was previously a number of old terraces combined, you can see how clever the designers have been in creating a great ambience in a small space. If you want a mainstream large flat screen TV, mini bar and cream carpet, with harbour glimpses, then this is not for you. If you want something that makes you feel edgy, has a touch of character, and outstanding feel-at-home service - then you have met your match.

Will be back.

Hi CathH-C,

We are so pleased to see that you spent your special “evening-pass” away from the children with us! Thanks so much for highlighting the design and style of the hotel, we love our little property and we are so glad you do too. The “feel at home service” is something we try very hard to achieve and find it very rewarding when our guests leave experiencing such service.

We hope to see you again soon CathH-C!

Sincerely,
Dylan

We stayed for three nights and were really impressed by the funky modern interior design. The room itself was rather small, but the attention to detail was really up to standard. We ordered from the late-night room menu and the portions were absolute value for money. The staff were always helpful and went out of their way to help us navigate our way to the many city attractions. Maybe you could just take a look at the placement of the washbasin and shelf in the bathroom - it's a little odd and you tend to bump your forehead while brushing your teeth! But overall, a great experience and definitely recommended.

Hi Amanda L, so good to hear that you enjoyed our funky modern interior design, you must have a good eye for detail! It was really pleasing for me to read your comment in regards to your interactions with our staff, I’m glad they were able to assist you with getting around our wonderful city!

Thanks for the note about the awkward design of the washbasin. Sorry to hear about the bumped head.

Thanks again for your review.

I would never stay here again. Rooms were clean and staff extremely professional and wonderful at their job. Rooms were very small and bathroom appalling for paying top dollar. For the same price you can be at Quay West (another ACCOR location) and only 50m away, with Harbour view, quadruple the size in room, valet parking and much much much much more. Nice sitting area in reception. But that is where it stopped.

Hi bedhead7271,

Thanks for taking the time to review your recent stay. I'm sorry it didn't live up to your expectations. Your right, Quay West - managed by Accor is a lovely property, but different to us.
Thanks for your comments in regards to our staff, I'm so pleased that they made that impression on you!

Kind regards,

Enjoyed a weekend staying at this hotel in The Rocks, Sydney. The hotel is very well located, an easy walk from Circular Quay or Wynyard Railway Station, close to the harbour and of course in the Rocks with its markets, history, art, attractive streets, food, music etc. We really liked the character and ambiance of the hotel and its quirky style. Our room was on the third floor and we had no issues at all with the stairs - in fact I liked that we could walk up the stairs and were not forced to use a lift as in many of the big hotels. We had a side view over interesting rooflines to the harbour bridge, harbour and opera house which was very enjoyable day and night. The room itself was small but it was well designed, including the bathroom. We were disappointed that the in house movies were not available in our room and found the offer to move rooms a bit disingenuous. A little irritating was the noise from the luggage lift.

Room Tip: Avoid a room near the luggage lift
