Reviewed 14 July 2012

Just stayed at this wonderful hotel for a few nights. Check in and concierge services fantastic. Only gripe us cleaning of our room on our second last day. Dirty breakfast dishes and glasses were not removed from our room by housekeeping so this was a little Bit of a disspointnent. Fibslky bathrooms are in need of an update with cracked tiles and peeling wallpaper.
Overall though a pleasant stay.

Our travel agent recommended the InterContinental of Sydney and after our visit there we can see why. Our rooms were large , luxurious with wonderful; city and harbor views. The Breakfast buffet had everything imaginable available. Service was top notch across the board.

Room Tip: Our travel agent suggesated a harbor view, but we chose the city view to save a few dollars and stil...

Treated myself to a Club Suite for what was an incredible concert at the Opera Hourse on the 12/7/2012. Room had the most fantastic view of the Harbour and The opera house on the 27 floor. Suite was big and roomy but as pointed out by a few other posters furniture is getting a little dated and shabby and the mini bar prices are over the top for soft drinks and snacks.
Views from the Club floor are amazing wonderful way to wake up with breakfast and views
The staff were amazing I was on crutches and the staff could not of been more helpful.
The Club staff went out of their way to help and were more than happy to to bring me a plate or beverage.
Will make a weekend of it next time one night just isnt enough
Thank you all Intercontinental staff for your help help.

Room Tip: Top floors are incredibly quiet spend the money

Dear Morgy5

Thank you for writing your review.

So sorry to read that you were on crutches at this time, pleased though that all colleagues you came in contact with were able to assist you.

Agree our Club InterContinental has wonderful views of Sydney Harbour and it is great to read that next time you will be with us for a longer period of time.

We do look forward to having you stay with us again.

Yours sincerely

After many stays at this property I have to say this is a good but not exceptional property and with the rates charged I believe its understandable why one would feel rather underwhelmed at times.

Rooms- Lead-in rooms are on the small side by Australian standards with very small and dated bathrooms with the shower being over the bathtub. Decor is generally fine though and in good condition but these rooms are by no means modern. Harbour Suites are spacious with much larger bathrooms and seperate shower but are dated also. Housekeeping can be a bit hit and miss with the odd stray hair in bathroom, mouldy grout and grubby prints on surfaces not wiped down- nothing major but a lack of detail.

Service- Efficient but perfunctory and lacking any warmth or feeling of genuine hospitality. Any benefits you may be entitled to as an ambassador member will be provided unless you're on a priority privilege rate or points stay. This hotel has never gone above and beyond in any aspect of its service, then again has never been terrible either.

Food- Prices are very high by Sydney standards (approx $7 for a coffee) but room service, lobby bar and restaurants are of a very high standard. Cannot fault the quality however I find the room service menu stingy- eg omelettes not being served with a side of toast and surcharges for more than 3 ingredients despite no mention of this in the menu.

Club lounge- Beautiful view, friendly staff though a little slow to serve drinks. Food is disappointing for a hotel of this calibre and not in the same league as Hyatt and Hilton both in variety, portions and quality.

Overall a solid property that does what's required for its class but could be so much more..

Thank you for writing your review and please accept my apologies for any disappointment experienced.

With regards to the omelette and charging for additional items, this is incorrect. Our Room Service Menu does include any item listed at no extra charge for omelettes.

Since your stay in February the menu in Club InterContinental during twilight drinks has had many changes as a result of suggestions as well as feedback received from our guests.

Hopefully on your next stay with us you will have the opportunity to experience our Club InterContinental changes.

Yours sincerely

A hotel at its very best. After 29 hours of traveling I guess all hotels is good, but this was a very pleasant surprise and exceeded high expectations. The room was spacious, very nice bathroom and fantastic bed.

Service of course was excellent overall.

Wi-Fi is 25 dollars a night!
Breakfast which was fantastic costs 38 dollars!
Got a good deal on hotels.com (better then hotels own site).

Only reason for not giving top score is the price of wi-fi.

The Hotel is a five minute walk uphill,on Phillip street, from the Central Quay and from the Quays you can travel by boat or train to anywhere within the Sydney catchment area. The Hotel is 10 mins. walk from the Opera House,The Botanical Gardens are just meters away and the Sydney Museum is just across the road. The hotel is a mixture of modern and classic the entertainment in the ground floor lounge however, was always on the classic side, a string quartet one day and a choir the next. The staff all courteous and most helpful. The beds were so comfortable i had trouble getting my wife out of there every morning, nearly missed our coach trip to the Blue Mountains, a day trip which i highly recommend.
We could just see Sydney Bridge from our room and on our first night there they had a test run of the new year firework display, never new they did a test run but it was a great treat. The indoor swimming pool is on the top floor and you dont have to be swimming to enjoy the views. Take the ferry to Taronga zoo, kids will love it and you will get the best view of the Opera House. Take the double decker train or bus from the Quay to Bondi beach the adults will love that. My biggest kick was climbing the steps to the Opera House and just to touching the white wall tiles of that building, an amazing piece of architecture. So to sum up this was one of the best times, best hotels and the best city.
