In my opinion, the Sydney Intercontinental Hotel is ideal for your stay in Sydney with one caveat. You really should book access to the concierge floor. Yes, yes it is more money but the extra dollars will turn an ordinary, albeit, very nice hotel room into a fantastic experience. The concierge floor is on the 31st floor. The staff that run this extraordinary room are simply the best. You shall overlook the Sydney Harbor Bridge and of course, the Opera House. The view is a sweeping panoramic. Spectacular! Breakfast is a very nice buffet with all the things one might expect from a breakfast buffet. If you like the chef will poach you some eggs. From 5-7:00 PM you will be treated to hors 'd ouveres that can very well substitute for your dinner. These tasty treats change each night and there are at least 3 different choices each night. On one night the lamb kabobs were so good that was no need to try anything else. On another night I shall not admit to the quantity of New Zeland mussels I consumed, only that they were very good. Each night there is sushi. Also, there is a generous pour of sparking wines, white wines, red wines, as well as, hard liquor and beer. Of course the Sydney Harbor is all a glow as you relax in the lounge with your food and wine. The wi-fi is also complimentary. I dare say the view alone (there is also a wrap around terrace) is worth the extra cost but the service and everything else makes this a true value.

While I think that concierge service is far better in most of Europe than in the States I had no expectations in Australia as this was my first visit. The concierge service is impeccable and on par with some of the finest hotels in Europe if not better. In fact, the desk service and all we encountered made this truly a 5 star expereince.

You are a 5 minute from the harbor. No worries! If money does not factor into your equation you can stay at the Park Hyatt but you will miss out on the view from the 31st floor. That hotel does not offer the 5 star view.

If you are short a work out their gym is one of the better ones for a hotel. Opposite the gym is an indoor pool. All on that 31st floor. Enjoy Sydney as it is another World class destination city.

Cheers and no worries, Laurence

Room Tip: The higher the better for the sweeping panoramic views. You will pay more for the view of the Sydney Opera house and Harbor Bridge but if you book access to the concierge floor that view is unnecessary as you will see it twice a day.

My partner and I stayed her for 10 days in a lovely room with an eastern harbour view. The room is spacious and clean. The bathroom is a bit cramped and out dated. The staff all round where friendly and efficient.

The Club Level however was a big disappointment and a major waste of money. It's overcrowded and shabby. The carpet and upholstery is very stained and frayed. So many young children in there even though it's says no under 12's. Was like a daycare crèche every morning.
The sundowner time was way overcrowded not space to sit. Save your money and rather go to Circular Quay for breakfast and sundowners.
Uh The waiters can't cope with the breakfast guests. For 10 days our breakfasts were awkward and service was haphazard.

And there was a major over charge on our prepaid hotel invoice that nobody at the hotel cared to sort out properly. We had to pay over $1000 extra for a service we has already prepaid for!!!!
Only upon return home did our travel agent eventually get the hotel to admit their gross error.
What an anti climax to a nice stay in Sydney.

Dear miz_ferreira

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and I am very sorry you found your stay to be disappointing.

The charge you have mentioned was pre authorisation which is very normal in all hotels to obtain $100 per day to cover incidentals / mini bar which is normally released upon settling your account. I am pleased though this was resolved to your satisfaction.

I do hope we shall have the opportunity to welcome your return.

Warm regards

I stayed at the Intercon for just under a week. I wouldn't call the hotel 'old' per se but rather it has an old charm which is refreshing compared to the many modern and slick hotels that crowd Sydney. The interiors are beautiful and my room was always very clean - great comfy bed and fluffy, clean pillows. What really stood out was the service, from cafe to concierge. Even leading into the early morning the service was always exceptional, water promptly delivered to my room, little hotel toiletries restocked every day, gym well maintained.

Stayed for 10 days. The room is spacious and overlooking stunning views over the Botanic gardens and water. The staff is seamless and the food was divine. Location is everything with walking distance to the business center, shopping, harbour bridge and ferries. The concierge team were of great help during our stay. Will come back!

Room Tip: Buy a Club room/Best view in Sydney!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The biggest attraction for us was that it is in walking distance of the Opera House, upscale shopping, dining, and "The Rock." Our room had a beautiful view of the Royal Botanical Gardens and the Sydney skyline. The room was also large, clean, beautifully appointed and had every amenity. Drinks in their first floor lounge were outrageously expensive.
