Nice modern, clean rooms, good selection at breakfast, usually friendly service. Doesn't have the 'wow' factor, but a great place to stay for business or a short Sydney break. Free wifi would be nice.

Centrally located, just off Circular Quay, the Intercontinental is an oasis of calm in the midst of bustling Sydney.
Discrete, professional &, in our experience, universally helpful, staff are throughout the Hotel.
The entrance lobby/reception area (perhaps a little small in the overall context of the Hotel) gives into a large, restful atrium, tastefully furnished with echoes of the serenity & opulence of a bygone era.
Do try "High Tea" here.
Our room was (as requested) on a high floor ,east facing, with great views from it's window seat of the Botanical gardens & the Harbour's east heads.
The room was spacious, well appointed & quiet, with good amenities. The superking bed was supremely comfortable.
There is an indoor swimming pool at the top of the Hotel, which has expansive views over the harbour.
The only slightly jarring note of our stay (relevant to Pacific Privilege Members) ,is that "The Meat & Wine Co." restaurant (where we had an enjoyable dinner),within the hotel, is not included in the PP dining discount,& this is not made clear, either in the restaurant itself ,or in the hotel.
BUT,as a major compensation ,the following morning,we had probably the best hotel breakfast we've ever had (& we've experienced a few). The food was super fresh, with a huge variety of tasty choices of sweet & savoury fare, embracing most dietary options & many cultures.

We will return.

Dear 310HilaryW,

We appreciative of your review following you recent experience with us.

We are delighted that you enjoyed our central location by Sydney harbour and the service provided by our colleagues throughout your stay. I do agree that the Cortile does enable our guests to take in the rich history of the Treasury building and appreciate the architecture.

So pleased to read that you enjoyed your dining experience in Cafe Opera for breakfast. With such a vast array of sweet and savoury delights, its certainly a great experience to start the day. Of note, we'll be sure to provide your comments to Priority Privelege following your feedback.

We look forward to welcoming you back and thank you for your loyalty.

The hotel is located at the heart of the city. From circular quay 5 minutes walk which makes train transport from airport comfortable.
Check in was smooth and quick. First time in an IHG hotel, I’ve been completely told about the benefits of my loyalty card.
Room size is average and amenities are standard for Intercontinental brand.
Try closed pool on 31st floor with outstanding view to the harbour bridge and opera house.
You don’t need to push your floor button at the elevator. As you insert your room card, the floor no is automatically lighted. This was a surprise.
Lobby bar design and atmosphere is different than what we get used to. Combination of old building with new.
The only thing which I did not like is there is no ramp at the entrance to the hotel for luggage carrying. Car and pedestrian entrance is different and pedestrian entrance is far from reception area.

Room Tip: If possible, contact them before your arrival and ask for a room with harbour view.

Last minute night away for hubby and myself. We wanted five star and were happy to pay for it. We booked directly with the hotel. We were not disappointed!
The check in manager was delightful. Our room was fresh and modern and the view.....nothing beats the uninterrupted view of Sydney Harbour, the opera house and the harbour bridge.
If you are wanting a luxury experience in Sydney - this is it!

Room Tip: Opera House and Harbour Bridge view - higher floor

Location wise, you can't get much better. City view rooms are a bit bland though, so I am not sure why the extra charge just for a city view - didn't even look over the gardens. Room was nice, bathroom a little old & small - prefer separate shower, rather than shower over bath.

Check-in was fast enough, but it took far too long for luggage to be taken up. Arrived at around 11am and fantastic the room was ready, but still needed to head out for work - came back around 6pm and the luggage still had not been brought up! I found that to be very surprising for this hotel. Had to phone downstairs to get someone to bring the bags up asap.

The bar was nice, no issues about that.

Had dinner at the Meat and Wine Co which was great, and breakfast at Cafe Opera was perfectly fine. We did arrive nearly at closing time for breakfast, one staff did remind us we only had 15 minutes to eat - which yes, they have a closing time and that's fine, but it doesn't exactly make you feel welcome when they start picking up tables before the closing time, and then of course as soon as 10:30 hit the food started to get taken away. Fair enough, you don't let any extra people in after close - but at least don't scare off the people who still made it in time. And it is just a buffet breakfast, so it wasn't like there was any orders of difficult foods etc. That said, another staff member was very welcoming and said everything was perfectly fine and not to worry, we could still get a few more things.

The strangest part was, on the second night arrived home after dinner at around 10pm - and there was an ice bucket in the room. Nothing in the ice bucket, there was no request for one, so I couldn't understand what the ice bucket was in aide of? I've only ever been given an ice bucket if I actually say ordered some wine and needed the bucket...

There is nothing to argue about the location. It hardly gets any better in Sydney. The rooms are quite small and bathroom is pretty oldschool. Breakfast is average for a five star hotel. Check-in and check-out was quite fast despite a long queue. I am expecting more from a five star hotel especially for the rates InterContinental is asking for.

I stayed here in August, dined at the Meat and Wine Co for dinner, and got coffee but not breakfast from Cafe Opera the next morning. Overall it was a great experience, its a wonderful hotel in a great location. We enjoyed our room which was clean and well furnished (the mirror in the bathroom which doesn't fog up is a great touch).

But... a little bit of personality and life from the front desk staff would make a world of difference. They acted like timid robots, and seemed like they were too scared of making a mistake. Makes it hard to feel welcomed.
