“A good choice made”
Reviewed 13 February 2014

Daughter and i only stayed for a couple of nights, middle of December 2013
Served our purposes well,
The taxi ride to the hotel through the very busy red light district of Kings Cross on a Friday evening was entertaining, but the area the hotel is a more up market :)
25 mins stroll into the city centre, Darlings harbour, Opera house etc,
Apartment was clean and tidy, simple but fully usable, We were on the side of the hotel, with just a view of the harbour,,Staff friendly and helpfull, good supermarket just over the road, many restaurants in the area, but would book, as all were busy,,
Would stay again,

Room Tip: Go for a harbour view,, then away from the road

This hotel ticked all the boxes for us . Katie ,Vishal and Paulo at the front desk were always very helpful and friendly and are a great asset to the hotel . Our room had a wonderful view of the city skyline and harbour and although small it suited us perfectly for 5 days .We loved the fact you could open the windows if you didn't want the airconditioning .The bathroom is small and the shower adequate . I would definitely return

Staff remember regular guests at the front desk and are very attentive
Harbour views are a well kept secret at that price you can see across to Sydney heads
Close to a choice of restaurants just across the road and short walk to train station Great cosmopolitan area

We stayed here over Australia Day and the price was very good about $170 night. We chose the location as we like to spend time in Potts Point and the cross.

The hotel is older and the furniture is very basic. We stayed in a harbor view room which was lovely. The room had a kitchenette, ensuite, iPod 4 dock, average been and toiletries.

The area is Kings Cross, great atmosphere day and night! Suggest walking down the stairs to wooloomoloo and then over the the harbor bridge.

Good hotel for the price. Nothing fancy and very affordable for Sydney prices.

Cab from airport about $45, train is about $18.

I was very happy with my stay at the Macleay hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was a great size and the views across the harbour were simply spectacular. The bed was very comfortable, the room was nice and clean and it was a good shower, all things I find important when travelling. The location of the hotel was great, close to a number of good restaurants, not far from the Botanical Gardens and a short walk from Kings Cross train station.

Room Tip: If you can afford a little extra or if there is a deal to be had, I thoroughly recommend getting a r...

My husband and I stayed here on our first leg of our Australian honeymoon and it was a wonderful experience. The hotel is situated in an area called Potts Point which was fantastic! I'm really glad we chose this hotel as otherwise might've overlooked this artistic suburb had we stayed in central Sydney.
The hotel is less than a 10-minute walk from Kings Cross Station (easily accessible from the airport). Our room was a good size with a little kitchenette area and views of Macleay Street. There is a Woolworths grocery store and BWS (liquor store) across the street as well as some really nice coffee shops and restaurants.
We walked to Bondi Beach from this hotel (1 hour) and to Circular Quay/Sydney Opera House (20-30 minutes, great walk through the Domain).

There is a rooftop pool which apparently has some nice views but we didn't get a chance to check it out.
There is free wifi in the lobby and the staff was very helpful.

This is my 2nd stay at the Macleay. It is a very friendly & helpful place. We had a district view room but in reality we had a good view of The harbour out to Rushcutter's Bay. There is a bus running past the hotel going to kings Cross, Paddington and the Central St. one way, and to Woollamooloo and Circular Quay the the other. It is only a 7 minute walk to Kings X and a 30 min. one to National Gallery and the Botanical Gardens.
There is a pool which we never used, washing machines on every floor and free wifi. There is a Woolworths opposite.
Overall it is good value for Sydney and was included in the UK Guardian in their top ten budget hotels in Sydney.
However when I return to Sydney in 7 weeks I will stay somewhere else because all the restaurants in the immediate Potts Point vicinity are absurdly expensive and so one is forced to trek uphill to find a modest priced restaurant. Sometimes one is too tired to do this.
