Novotel Darling Harbour is a hotel we stay at quite often. It's great if you have young kids as its proximity to attractions such as the aquarium, maritime museum and the Darling Quarter playground provides convenience and there's plenty to keep our 6 year old entertained. Service at check in needs to be vamped up. It's school holidays and as the line of guests waiting to check in got longer the number of staff at check in dropped to 2, which meant we all had to wait longer. Check out was worse, I am aware there is express check out, but we needed to get an access card for the car park, so it meant checking out the traditional way. Again there were 2 staff behind the desk and one staff member decided to take the role of concierge and decided that rather than directing the guests to the concierge desk, to spend the next 15 minutes acting as tour guide, in the meantime the line got longer and several guests lined up behind me began to point out there is a concierge on the ground floor - this didn't deter the staff member to keep going for another 10 minutes, and the line got longer. The room we had was great. It was large and had a view of Darling Harbour, the day bed near the window needs a serious clean though - it was stained with goodness knows what! It may have been someone's beverage, however it also appeared that perhaps someone lying or sitting there didn't quite make it to the loo in time.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room on the higher floors if you can as they are bigger, and if you want a view oth...

Great location but get your credit card out! Very expensive and slow service. Rooms were clean with adequate space. We didn't eat or drink there at all. You can get much better value meals nearby at Darling Harbour. Parking costs were on top of accommodation and was outrageously expensive. Makes a trip to this place for country people more expensive than a flight to Perth.

Stayed: May 2014

There was no valet or anyone to meet us on arrival so my wife had to go looking for reception which is on the 1st floor. Fortunately a staff member arrived and directed me where to park. Parking is on site, very handy and $45/day.
Check in was effortless and the room was quite good. The night blind is great, the Intercontinental has similar electric ones but these are just as good at stopping any light from coming in.
The room had all the normal features, the beds were comfortable and plenty of pillows to pick from.
This is one of the few hotels which allows 4 per room so 2 kids in the 2nd bed is ok.
There is ramp access from the hotel to Darling Harbour via the multi level shopping centre. This puts the hotel in easy walking distance to a huge variety of restaurants, bars and eateries.
The hotel does a hot buffet breakfast, ours was included in price and it was as good as any of the 5star hotels, and probably better serviced. There were staff constantly walking through the restaurant checking food was topped up, plates cleared etc. All hotels do this, but some don't do it well, this one does.
The staff were very helpful and keen to ensure we were happy, one lady even paused a phone call to ask us how everything was going as she walked past as we were leaving the restaurant.
Checkout was again effortless making the whole experience 5 start. We will be back again.
