“What a brilliant end to our holiday - thanks to the Quay Grand..”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2011

I had read lots of reviews on Trip Advisor about how great the Quay Grand Suites were, with everyone raving about the Harbour view rooms. As our stay was going to be at the end of our big Australian trip and it was our 15th wedding anniversary, I decided to splash the cash and book a Harbour view room. I mentioned in our booking that as it was our anniversary and the booking was a surprise for my husband, I would really appreciate a room on a high floor to maximise the view.

When we turned up at the hotel I was immediately impressed by the staff. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The person who checked us in took us to our room and chatted away to us as if we were old friends. The hotel had noted my comments on the floor level and put us in a brilliant room (903 I think) on the 9th floor.

We travel a lot for both pleasure and business so are guilty of being a bit jaded when it comes to hotel rooms and views but even my husband was stunned by the room and the view beyond the window once we got through the door. We loved the fact that it was a suite and it was very cleverly designed to make the most of the space. The furnishings were all in very good condition, the room was spotlessly clean and although the bathroom wasn't uber modern I wouldn't have called it outdated or old (and I am very fussy about my bathrooms).

The piece de resistance was our balcony where we spent some very pleasant mornings and evenings watching the ferries come and go at Circular Quay and the sunset over the bridge. I thought the room was brilliant value given the view, the balcony and the proximity of the hotel to the key attractions i.e. the Opera house, Botanical gardens, Circular Quay etc.

However what really set the hotel apart was the quality of the staff. Everyone we met and dealt with was unfailingly helpful and pleasant. Everyone seemed genuinely keen to make sure we had the best time possible in Sydney and at the hotel. And we were particularly touched when we got back to our room one afternoon to find a card from the hotel congratulating us on our anniversary. Someone had taken the time to note from my booking that it was our anniversary and then give us a card when we arrived. That level of service and detail is absolutely brilliant and really sets this hotel apart from some of the other (more expensive!) hotels we stayed in on this trip.

Stay here and book a harbour view room. You won't regret it.

Room Tip: 9th floor harbour view rooms are fab!

One room serviced appartment with the bridge view costs very expensive late september. Room only. At this price, we have every service from a hotel, such as room daily serviced and the privilege of being exactly where we have always dreamed to be in Sydney ; at both the opera house and the harbour bridge

We like :
-Can’t beat the location. At least to those, like us, who can spend entire life watching the bridge or the opera house. Surely one of the nicest place to be on earth
-Can’t beat the view ; breathtaking over the harbour, all time busy with criscrossing ferries and happy people coming and going circular quay to the opera house
-Large for 2, 40-45 m2 ? Fully equipped appartment, correctly furnished and warmly decorated, not really edge design but consensual modern touch. Wifi for as many laps as you want, washer and dryer, complete kitchen with dish wash. Notice : all window blinds are electric, yer sir
-Individual balcony

We don’t :
-Old style bathroom, but fully equipped and large

Tips :
-The bridge view gives this place its very particular privilege in Sydney, so the garden view rooms may cost less but the effort worths every penny, to be on this side

From the minute we wlked through the door, early i might add, just to see if we could leave a bags there while we seen the sights od Sydney
We were told our room was ready, no extra charge.
Friendly, consideratre staff, the room was impeccable.
I would refer this motel to anyone, and we have stayed at many.

Room Tip: We stayed on the Garden side, but from the balcony we sat and sipped wine and watched the quay

Excellent location close to the train station and Ferry terminals. Well designed, spacious suites with full kitchens. Everything is clean and in near-new condition. We booked the cheaper (garden-view) suite rather than the harbour view and were very happy with this as it was probably quieter overlooking the botanical gardens. We had an infant with us a we were able to let him crawl and stagger around without any worries as all of the furnishings were modern and the apartment was uncluttered. You could not hear anything from neighbouring suites or the corridor.

We stayed in a Harbour View suite for just 1 night as we were travelling through Sydney. The suite was spacious, clean and had everything in it that you would need.
Staff were friendly and helpful and very nicely dressed.
We had room service for dinner which tasted fantastic and the prices were pretty much the same as any other hotel room service.
Location is right next to the ferries and only a few short steps from the Opera House and eating venues.
I would definitely stay here again and would always choose the Harbour View.

Two of us stayed in a suite on the 9th floor. It was an unexpected stay. We were both travelling with assistance dogs and were invited guests of ABC Radio at an Opera House event. Yet the Opera House (which has its own legislation) refused us entry and it was drama. Quay Grand welcomed us and our dogs and easily accepted the documentation for the animals.

All the staff were informed of our stay, so we never needed to explain our situation when taking the dogs out to toilet. This is very important.

The suite is spacious and worth the $900 or so a night. The corner balcony with the best view is tiny, and the furniture gets in the way of the door, but you put up with it for the view. Also, there was no way to secure the door open to get the breeze, so we made up a DIY tie.

It was a super-comfortable place to stay and recover for a few nights. At night, the view is just as good, so it's easy to stay up all night and just watch.

Room Tip: Splurge on the two room suite, harbour side.

My wife and I stayed in a Harbour View Suite for two nights and were blown away by the view. The hotel itself is modern and very well appointed. The staff were friendly and on hand to answer any questions about the area. The concierge was efficient in every way.

Very quiet even with ferries and trains only metres away. One must do is breakfast in the Quadrant Restaurant. Selection from menu and cooked to order.

The only very minor issue is that there is no turn down service at night which I would expect from a hotel of this quality and price.

Room Tip: Harbour View Room is a must. Try the breakfast in the Quadrant Restaurant.
