I love this hotel! The location and the decor are fabulous. The highlight for me is definitley the staff. We were travelling with our 2 young boys and the staff were always polite, attentive and friendly. We ate breakfast in the restaurant every morning, and once again the staff, food and service were commendable. We had a room with 2 double beds and it was a good size for our needs. This is the only place I will stay in Sydney.

Dear Valued Guests

You are in good company as we have many regular interstate guests who also love Sir Stamford at Circular Quay. Children are our future guests and we do like to make their stay memorable - they also like to the grandeur of our hotel and many a small face is riveted by the chandeliers and some of the porcelan in cabinets. The original art work in the hotel is very "child friendly" as this was a directive of the founders.

Our new staff member "Morris" gets lots of cuddles and ocassionally disappears to a room under the arm of a houseguest. (See our Facebook page for photos of Morris)

The twin bedded rooms (with 2 double beds) are perfect for travelling families and the rooms being slightly larger do make it more comfortable. Some families prefer a rollaway - and of course we do have the very comfortable rollawys that have a good mattresses.

Thank you so much for your postive comments about our friendly staff - we do appreciate you taking the time to review our hotel.

Looking forward to your return

What more can you ask for? The Sir Stamford is a 3-minute walk from the Sydney Opera House and only a little more to the surrounding attractions, including the historic Rocks area. The hotel is gracious and rooms are very well appointed. Ours had a view over the SOH and east along the glorious Sydney Harbour. We stayed here the last time we attended the opera and were due to fly out the next day - so convenient. Recommended.

Room Tip: The views are great on 3 sideas (east, west, north). Park in the hotels carpark around the corner an...

Dear Valued Guests

Reviews from Sydneysiders are very much appreciated - having locals recommend us is the best we can ask for. We are very proud of our cleanliness ratings as our housekeeping has quite a task with all our 550 handcut chandeliers, crystal lamps, gilt mirrors and antiques to dust.

Kind regards

Very enjoyable and comfortable four day stay. Not your glass and chrome monolith, medium sized and in an excellent location a few minutes walk to Circular Quay, Opera House and The Rocks. 15 minutes walk to main shopping. Deluxe double overlooking Botanical Gardens. Room a good size and well equiped, particularly appreciated tea and coffee making facility. Bathroom large, clean, separate bath and shower. Bar area in Hotel served reasonably priced food and drinks and had good entertainment on Friday evenings. Used Restaurant once for breakfast, not impressed so did not use again. Perhaps the most impressive thing about this Hotel is the quality of its staff. I have stayed in many hotels around the world and I can honestly say the staff at this hotel are the best I have experienced anywhere, well informed and pleasantly helpful. Well done to them all.

Dear Valued Guests

Thank you so much for your Gem of a review and your five star rating of our beautiful boutique Macquarie Street hotel. Being able to make a cup of tea at anytime is a feature of most Australian hotels - so we cannot take extra credit for this feature. But our rooms are lovely and spacious and one dosen't feel cramped and it does feel more relaxed than other more modern city hotels. Your high praise of our staff is very well received as it is our 110 strong team hat deliver the "feel" of the hotel and impart the genuine hospitality that Australia is known for.

Thank you again and do return.

Dear Valued Guest

We much appreciate a review from a well travelled "Road Warrior" like yoursefl with so many miles and so room nights experienced in such a competitive market. Hotels offer so many "bells and whistles" these days we are delighted to receive such high accolade from you. We do agree Sir Stamford has a good location and is a very comfrotable hotel. Staff training is constant and we do like to take comments for improvement and learn from the ever changing market on what it takes to anticipate our guests needs - they are all different and we like to personalise the experience from providing I Pod charges to a beautiful High Tea.

Dear Valued Guests

Thank you for your high ratings - despite the hum you edxperienced during your stay. Our air conditioning plant is not usually audible, however like all city hotels there are noises that are both external and internal. We do like to room move a guest (even with a complimentary upgrade if available) if there is a specific room location that is annoying as we appreciate sleep if of course our core product. Having good curtaining, and thick brick and sandstone walls does minimise sound, but we understand that the smallest sound can sometimes be troublesome. Recently we had a flock of cockatoos in the gardens opposite who made such a racket our Night Manager had to disperse them with much arm waving.- thankfully not a common occurrence.

Kind regards

I spent SO much time researching hotels in Sydney and finally settled on this one. Glad I did. The beautiful decor and professional, friendly staff reminded me of some of the nicest hotels in Europe . . . very upper class but however, without being the least bit stuffy. We felt perfectly comfortable coming and going in our casual clothes, and simply enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of beautiful oriental carpets, era oil paintings, fresh flowers, old-fashioned constant courtesy. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. There is a restaurant where we had breakfast, and a bar that looked quite appealing. From the covered arch entranceway and doorman to the lovely view (from the 10th floor) it felt magical. There are several shuttles from the airport to the hotel at $14 each way, and once at the hotel just about anything worth seeing is walking distance. Even in heels, it was an easy walk to 100 year old stairs leading down to the outdoor cafe area and the Opera House. The price was reasonable for the area. The beds were very comfortable, the rooms had all the amenities one could hope for (see the bedside tables for coffee pots and safe). Our room didn't have a balcony but it had stunning views over the harbor. We could only see the back of the Opera House, but a great view of the bridge, the sailboats, etc. We were going to originally stay in a hotel that had an (expensive) full view of the Opera House but realized it was quite a walk and so opted for Sir Stamford instead. Turns out to have been the far better choice. The Royal Botanical Gardens (which are breathtaking) is right across the street from the hotel, too.

Room Tip: 1005 has gorgeous view

Dear Valued Guests

It's wonderful that Trip Advisor works so well to attract perfect guests like yourself - the knowledge you gained ensured you made the right choice for you. We do thank you as all your information will assist others make their perfect choice. Being on the edge of harbour can be applied to many properties but it is our Macquarie Street access to the harbour, Opera House and Botanical Gardens that makes us so unique. Last Saturday the most breathtaking Harbour Opera - La Traviata opened and of course our location is perfect for this world acclaimed opera event.

From my initial enquiry until leaving the hotel, absolutely everything was perfect – this is a hotel with true customer values. I cannot recommend it enough.
Location: fantastic – short walk to Opera House etc.
Room: large and comfortable. We had amazing view, but think most rooms have lovely views onto the park etc.
Food: only thing not tested, so no comment.
Service: impeccable, old school, whilst being friendly.
Special mention (I never do this): Jeniffer at reception, and Stu/ Kieran the concierges.

We are delighted to read your excellent review and do appreciate our staff that really go the extra mile. Like many good hotels we have Employee recogntion programmes, daily, weekly, quarterley and then the coveted Employee of the Year. Guest mentions are always part of the selection process. Sir Stamford's number one mantra is to "Show passion and be bothered to go that extra mile" in other words be Exceptional in Every Sense. It's good to know that that for you this was delivered immpeccably.
