“Not the five star service I would expect”
Reviewed 3 June 2012

We stayed 2 nights at the Stamford, and having stayed in this group of hotels throughout the world and extemely satisfied with the overall service and accomodation, I was a little disapointed in the fact that this hotel could let them selves down on the fact that you had to pay for an extra cup of coffee at breakfast, a minor issue to most but one I found unacceptable for a five star hotel. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, but given the opportunity to make my remarks via a survey left in the room and then an email from the hotel and receive no feedback, is somewhat dissapointing - does anyone care?

Otherwise hotel service, room and atmosphere of bar were really nice, but having no response back leaves me to think why return when there are so many other options in Sydney.

Dear Valued Guests

Thank you for nudging us to ensure we respond to your on line survey feedback, we do care and sincerely apologise for missing a return email. Charging for an extra cup of coffee is definitely an issue that we need to review if guests have an inclusive rate for breakfast - thank you for alerting me.

We are pleased you liked our Bar, and the general atmosphere of the hotel as this is the reason so many guests do return - they find the hotel is the right "fit" for them.

Kind regards and once again our apologies for not providing a timely repsonse to your survey,
Heather Idoine

Our first stop on arriving in Australia for the first time. We arrived from the airport at 8 am not expecting our room to be ready, and it wasn't, however the really nice lady on reception found us a room that was. And wow what a room with a view of Sydney Bridge and the Opera House. Couldn't fault the hotel, Concierge were really friendly and helpful. Lovely pool. Really good location only a couple of minutes walk to Circular Quay, Botanical Gardens, Opera House et. Would definitely stay again.

We are honoured to have been your first introduction to Australia and very pleased to learn that we delivered a superb experience. Boutique Hotels have their own style and ambience choosing one that suits your personality is always a win win. Many flights into Sydney International arrive early as our airport has evening curfews, so we have quite a few very early morning arrivals which can be very tiring for guests if they need rest and recovery from a long haul flight.

We try our very best even when we are fully booked the evening before to get those rooms turned around to enable checkin when guests walk in the door. When this is not possible we do have our small leisure centre to ensure guests can shower and refresh.

Thank you for highlighting all the nearby features, we wish you all the best for your travels.

Kind regards
Heather Idoine.

Dear Valued Guest

Our Philip Street facing rooms do have a good view of the Museum of Contemporary Art light event which begins at 6.00pm every evening until June 11th and just next door on Circular Quay on the Customhouse Building is everyones favourite - a cartoon/birdseye view of a city set to very moving music. Sir Stamford is certainly a great choice for all vweekend visitors.

The weather in Sydney has been unseasonally wet, but it is still very very mild - An umbrella is a must for those ocassional showers.

Kind regards

I was given a night in this amazing (old English) Hotel for my birthday and used the voucher in April. Everything from the check in, bellboy service, foyer sitting room complete with open fire to the clean room, awesome comfy bed, bubble bath and breakfast was just wonderful. THis Hotel is situated on McQuarie street and just a hop and a skip and one is on circular key, the ferries and trains and restaurants all there, would definately recommend this hotel for a spoiling relaxing break away.

Room Tip: Our room was overlooking McQuarie Street, but pleasant and not traffic noisy at all.

Dear Happy Birthday Guest

What a lovely gift to receive for your birthday and a night at Sir Stamford at Circular Quay. We are very pleased you have to perfectly identified all our best features. Macquarie Street is indeed not an arterial route and with the beautiful trees it does shield our rooms from sun, rain and traffic noise. This famous Sydney street is home to the Opera House at one end and the famous Sydney Barraacks at the other, with many stunning old and new architectural features in between. We are very lucky to have one of the oldest buidlings standing - the 1897 Health Department integrated into our hotel and we do attract visitors who are keen to pop into The Bar and lobby to see the features - high ceilings and chandeliers.

Sydney has many theatres - the Sydney Theatre is performing "Under Milkwood" the Dylan Thomas play for words at the Opera House starring Jack Thompson - for lovers of the English language this is a MUST SEE. It's receiving very good reviews. Anyone considering an Opera treat will be booking Aida which opens on July 14th.

Kind regards

We stayed for one night in April 2012 so we could attend the theatre at Sydney Theatre Company.

We got a great deal on Wotif so can't comment on the usual value for money, but for what we paid the value was amazing.

When we checked in we were upgarded to a room with views of the bridge, opera house and the botanic gardens.

The room was clean, large and beautiful, the bed comfortable, the bathroom well appointed and the bath was big enough to lounge in.

We had breakfast int he dining room and also enjoyed a late night dessert after the show. The dining room is what you imagine hotel dining rooms were like in the colonial hey-day and the food was very good.

All round, we had a lovely stay and I would happily visit again.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Quay and on the corner nearest the gardens have the best views.

Dear Valued Guests

The Sydney Theatre Company performs world class shows. I recently saw "Under Milkwood" with Jack Thompson in a matinee performance - it was outstanding. The city is so fortunate to have so many venues and so many theatre companies, but it is worth booking ahead, than trying to catch a last minute seat.

Wotif is a great internet site, for comparison shopping, but do always check our hotel website as it can be even better and pre-payment is only required if getting an advance purchase discount.

Our "olde worlde" style means decent sized double basin bathrooms and indeed much larger rooms than is the norm these days even for 5 star. And our prices are very competitive for our location.

With 3 "sides" to the hotel - there's plenty of discussion on the best - as Macquarie Street receives the rising sun and the other (Philip Street), the afternoon - it's very much a personal preference and indeed we do room move guests if they change there minds about location. Regular guests have their preference locked into their guest profile - but to be honest the opinion on best location is very subjective. The hotels real asset is it's location - nothing too far away if you like the harbour ferries, opera house, Botanical Gardens, The Rocks and other historical buildings.

Your sincerely
Heather Idoine

Have stayed at this hotel on majority of my travels to Sydney for the past 8 years or so and can onlymsay that there is a reason why I keep comming back - no ot one reason, several.
The hotel is very conviniently placed, it has great ambience and the service from arriving and throughout is superb and friendly.
Truly this hotel gives the feeling of a home away from home.

Dear Valued Guest

8 years of loyalty to Sir Stamford at Circular Quay is much appreciated. The nice thing about our hotel is that probably nothing much has changed - here the changes are subtle, the wireless broadband is now free in the lobby and there are small adjustments and improvements we hope in our food and wine lists, but the general ambience and feel of the hotel remains the same - as we strive to exceed our guests expectations of excellence.

Kind regards
We look forward to your next visit,

Stayed at Sir Stamford for a couple of nights with the family. This hotel is in a great location to explore Circular Quay and the Rocks. Since the location was great, we eat out and went to local attractions - museums, zoo, etc... The Breakfast buffet at Sir Stamford fare was standard fare from a nice hotel. We stayed in a suite, which had a very comfortable bed plus they provided a small bed from my 4 year old. The Staff was polite and professional. All in all, a very pleasant experience.

Dear Valued Guests

Thank you for taking the time to rate our lovely boutique hotel in Circular Quay with 5 stars. Sir Stamford is very child friendly and from Morris our cuddly lobby Wombat to myself - all 110 staff make an extra effort to greet and treat children as special future guests. We have high chairs and coss and lovely firm rollaways and can organise babysitting. The heated pool is an attraction, even in winter. Children especially seem to enjoy the room service arriving with their breakfast! We even do a childrens high tea - which seems to turn them into instant ladies and gentlemen as they enjoy 3 tiers of treats, napkins on their laps.

We have recently had several overseas families who have used our hotel as a base to explore the state - taking day trips to the Blue Mountains, drives up to Palm Beach to walk the to the lighthouse and and round trips to the beautiful hinterland to visit Bowral. They all commented that it was lovely to come back to the hotel, the large rooms and the fire welcoming them in the lobby.

We hope you return again soon.
