Alot of people put there bad stay on the hotel, hotel is nice great location and staff were friendly! all im saying is dont believe everything you read! people get personal when they have a little bad experience and take it out on hotels and there staff.

all in all i had a great stay it was cheap for a hotel in this location!

Staff made a few mistakes but tried there hardest.

My friends and i stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment at this hotel. it was nice and comfortable overall. We found that upon check in a few of the staff members did not know the area very well as we asked for places to dine etc etc. Also the directions we were given to access our room which was in a totally different building were very confusing and we got lost a few times. The room was very clean and tidy and well presented however the furniture is in need of upgrade. The View we had from the room was 5star as it overlooked Darling Harbour. I would recommend for anyone to stay here once the furniture is upgraded and the reception staff have more knowledge of Sydney.

After spendind countless hours searching the net for accommodation in Sydney for our 12 night family holiday , I finally decided on Clarion Suites due to their "Cloud Nine beds" and location. The location really was great. The monorail was right at the building and very convenient. We could walk very comfortably to many shops, rail stations and attractions, and of course China town.
When we checked in we were told we could not check into our apartment as it had been damaged the night before from previous guests. We were put into two1 bedroom apartments till the next day. Although an inconvenience it was ok for 1 night and the beds were so comfortable. We went out on our first day of being tourists and the staff transferred all our bags and food from fridge to our apartment. They were very helpfull and polite.

We had a 2 bedroom apartment on the 16th floor with excellent views from 2 verandahs. The room itself was large and yellow. It certainly needs a paint job. A few nicks and scrapes on the walls but no big deal. We had no frypan or toaster in the room but they were quickly sent up to usby friendly staff .

The main problem we had was the "Cloud 9 bed".
Not in the 2 bedroom apartments we were told after we went to our room and sat on the bed. It was more uncomfortable than a bed in a budget style roadside motel .After reading all the Clarion Suites web sites bragging about these great beds and intending to stay for 12 nights we wanted a comfortable bed.
we were told they were only in the 1 bedroom apartments not the 2. What a rort. Nowhere in any of the Clarion advertising does it say 1 bedroom only.

I have included a response from management re a previous guest review about the "Cloud 9 beds"
Management response from CSDHMGT, Manager
(Management representative)
Jan 1, 2009

"We are glad you enjoyed the Cloud 9 beds as it was the very basic fundamentals of accommodation we felt was essential. This was basically a 5 star bed without the price tag to the room rates. It is quite rare to experience this bed outside of the 5 & 6 star Hotels. This is a sign of things to come in our refurbishment..."

When I contacted management I was told they could not do anything about it and did i want to move back into two 1 bedroom apartments that had the cloud 9 beds. Yeah right, we had 2 kids for 12 nights. Not a good idea. He said he could help us move to a different hotel if I did not like where I was. The whole "cloud 9 bed" thing is very misleading and dishonest, the bed was so bad to sleep in.

I spoke to management re the 100% guarantee satisfaction or refund of 1 nights accommodation flyer in the room and was told "next time you come to Sydney we will give you 1 night free. What a joke. we came for 12 nights and spent a fortune, do you think we would come all the way back for 1 night free. The 100% satisfaction guarantee is a lie also. We were very disapointed with the response from management. Why do they put this advertising in the room and on websites? It's wrong.

I strongly recommend that no one stays in this hotel. Upon arrival, we put our bags in the holding area as our room wasn't ready. When we returned several hours laters, my bag was not in the room. There was no tagging system, the room had been left open for anyone to walk in and the staff have no sense of vigilance whatsoever. This was just the start!!! I had absolutely no clothes or anything for the entire long week end and after insisting with the complacent so called assistant management (the manager, Raymond Trang refused to even meet with us over the three day period) we saw the CCTV footage (which wasn't even monitored until after 24hrs after the crime), which revealed that one of the STAFF members handed my bag to another patron, along with about 8 other bags (yes one person with 8 bags who also refused to give them his details and the staff didn't think think was odd!) who left the hotel with my bag containing thousands of dollars worth of goods. The staff have absolutely no idea how to handle incidents of any nature and we were told that they would offer no compensation to me what so ever - they lied and told us the manager Rayond Trang would meet us.... he refused to meet us. We were told that security equipment had been moved to another room because there were so many armed robberies. They kept on telling me they agree that I should be compensated but their lame excuse was it wasn't their decision... I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff are completely useless and they don't deserve their jobs, nor does the so called manager Raymond Trang, who wouldn't even show his face. They couldn't even tell us who OWNS the hotel..... we were charged for our hotel room and I wasn't even offered money for a new toothbrush! This is the most disgusting service I have ever received - please don't risk staying here.....it ruined our entire weekend and this operation should not be in business. If there was a major incident, there is no manager on site, the staff are clueless and patrons would have no chance! Having travelled all across Europe over the past several years, this hotel is officially the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.....

We booked this hotel thru wotif.com after reading most of the reviews on tripadvisor. We agree that the location is great, and the room is a nice size for the price. We had the suite including a little kitchenette and lounge room, on top of the std bedroom/ensuite.

The hotel is located at the new Dixon 1 shopping bit, outside of Dixon St Chinatown. Great location for chinese food and Paddy's Markets, and the monorail station is in the same building. Also great access to Darling Harbour, Harbourside. A decent walk to QVB & Circular Quay though. We recommend the Spanish Club and Satsuma (in #1 Dixon) for dinner!

The room was mostly clean, a few scuff marks around though. We liked the kitchenette so we could save money on breakfast, but when we went to cook, we were missing the frypan and some utensils (one fork btw us just won't do!). And the first night the internet wasn't working when my husband went to use it. We didn't try after that. Also, our room was on the chinatown side and was a bit noisy at night.

However, the location made up for it, and we had fun walking to Sydney attractions. Don't expect 5 star, but it was comfortable enough for our 4 night stay.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment for 4 days to spend Xmas with my family. I was hesitate in booking the hotel due to some negative reviews. I have to say that the hotel wasnt the best i have stayed at but it also wasnt the worst. I agree with other reviews that the hotel is in a fantastic location but i also agree with the fact that it is a bit dirty. Some of our appliances were broken and could have been quite dangerous as we had our 15mth baby with us, and the hotel also can be quite confusing as there are two parts to the hotel. Would i stay here again?.......for the location and price..... i probably would.....would i recommend it?.......as long as you dont mind a few things not working and hard beds......yes

This is the third time we have stayed at the Southern Cross on Harbour. It is perfectly situated near Darlilng Harbour and the top end of Dixon Street in Chinatown. Walking distance to all the facilities including Paddy's Market, Restaurants, shopping, Entertainment Centre, theatres, There is a mono rail station in the building next door and it is short walk to Central Station and the Light Rail system. We had a one bedroom suite which included lounge room and kitchen area which is perfect if you want to do some cooking but certainly not necessary as there is an abundance of eateries nearby. The price was reasonable and we were very happy with the facilities and the staff. Would recommend highly if you are looking for an apartment style hotel.
