We enjoyed our stay in this hotel which is in 10 minutes walking distance to the Harbour/Opera House and in 15 minutes you are in the Centre. Pleasant rooms, excellent and friendly staff. Very good concierge service.

Room Tip: ask for a room with waterview, might be a bit more expensive but worth to do it

As all the other reviews say, this is just a beautiful hotel with outstanding service, and we will definitely stay here again. My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights at the end of a two week vacation throughout Australia, and it was a wonderful way to end our trip. While the location is a bit out of the way, it's certainly not inconvenient, and it's nice that it's in a quieter, more residential area. The surrounding Rocks neighborhood is very cute, and it's a short walk to sights and restaurants. The concierges were all extremely helpful, with recommendations, directions, and making restaurant reservations for us. The room was beautiful with very nice turn down service every night, and the bathroom was spacious and luxurious. Thoughtful little touches throughout the room really made it feel special. The pool was beautiful, and we wish we had spent more time there. Overall a fantastic stay and we would love to stay here again!

Also - we ate dinner at Fish at the Rocks, just down the street, which was an excellent place for fresh, delicious seafood.

This hotel sets the benchmark for elegance, service and comfort. Our room was beautiful with fine furnishings that were reminiscent of a country estate in England, but with the bonus of Sydney harbour views. A welcome plate of petit fours (for my birthday) was a lovely touch.

The bathroom was enormous and supplied with every amenity. Unlike some other premium hotels, the over sized shower head made showering a relaxing experience.

The staff were outstanding even greeting us by name each time we left the hotel. At check- in I was wished a happy birthday. This was something my husband had made only a brief reference to when he was booking the room. Clearly though, it had been noted. Personal attention such as this was a feature of our stay.

The bar area was a pleasant place to sit and watch the passing parade outside. The high tea is well worth trying, even if you are not a guest of the hotel. The indoor pool area is magical to look at with lots of downlights that look like stars in the sky.

The breakfast was a little disappointing with a buffet continental section and a la carte hot food. At $45 a head I would have expected a wider selection and the buckwheat pancake is not something I'd try again. Strangely, the bircher muesli was served in tiny shot glasses.

Location wise the hotel is an easy walk to the Rocks area and Circular Quay. It is also not too far to walk to the King St Wharf area where there are several good restaurants.

It was a pricey stay, but for a special occasion in beautiful surroundings well worth it.

Room Tip: Book a harbour view room

We had only booked in for one night at the end of our trip to NSW. All of the staff are very professional and helpful. We were upgraded on arrival which was an added bonus. The room was very comfortable, we checked in at lunch time and then showered and bathed then went out to dinner (Mondays the restaurant is closed) the turndown service was great the bathroom towels etc were replenished which was really great. The location is excellent a short walk to the rocks and Circular quay and Darling harbour. I would definately recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: I booked direct with the hotel

My partner and I stayed here on our first child free night in 2 years and it was the perfect romantic winter escape. The service at this hotel sets a standard by which I will judge service provision from now on.

As for the hotel itself, the only flaw I noticed was some of the tiles around the spa were in poor repair. It made the area seem dirty in a way. But this is easily overlooked considering the faultless service and surroundings we otherwise experienced.

It is also worth noting that this is the first time I have stayed in such a classically styled hotel as opposed to more edgy, modern establishments. If I was up for a big night on the town, I may have found the surroundings a bit too sedate. As it turns out this was the perfect setting for our relaxing getaway.

I am so happy we stayed at this hotel in Sydney. It was so charming and unique and everything we hoped for during our stay. The rooms are lovely and so comfortable. Everyone who we encountered at The Observatory definitely went above and beyond regarding customer service. The food in the restaurant was delicious -- ambiance was perfect. The spa is beautiful. We all loved this hotel. Definitely would only stay at The Observatory upon return to Sydney.

We stayed in the Observatory hotel for our last week in Oz. We arrived in the hotel and were greeted by very professional staff who were extremley helpful. The room we stayed in was a good size with all of the creature comforts and more. The hotel is located in what seems to be the middle of a normal residential street. As long as you don't mind walking up and down some hills the location is ideal for the centre. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Well recommended.
