“Elegant and stylish hotel - prime choice”
Reviewed 8 January 2011

Upon arrival I was greeted with special attention, and despite an early arrival after a long flight, my room was ready. Very elegant and stylish hotel with a special, a bit formal but charming atmosphere and friendly staff. The hotel is located in a quiet street, some walking distance from the Rocks, but that is just fine. Perfectly equipped rooms with all amenities, plenty of space, very good room servive and cleanliness. I had a room facing the street but that was no problem at all for the sleeping quality.
The restaurant staff is very friendly, attentive and provided high level of classic service. The charge for Internet was a bit pricey, however, in such a high quality hotel this is normal.
My stay in Sydney was a fantastic one - also thanks to staying in the Observatory Hotel.

We stayed at the Observatory for 2 nights upon our arrival in Sydney. Every staff person we encountered was very nice and accommodating. Our room was very lovely with beautiful colors, spacious bed and fantastic soap (which may seem silly, but it smells so good)! Our view was ok. I guess I expected more from a "water view" than what we saw (rooftops, an empty lot, then the water) but the hotel isn't directly on the harbour - it is a block or so away. We found the location nice. It was an easy walk to the BridgeClimb office and not terribly far from the Town Hall. I also enjoyed the beautiful pool and steam room. Would stay again.

Really liked the sense of the hotel. It had a charming, rather formal ambience that accorded well with the opulent decor. Our room was excellent: spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. But the sea view was 'questionable', as between the hotel and sea is a series of rooflines and carparks - not at all pretty to look at.

The hotel is a bit 'in the middle of nowhere' and opens up onto a busy vehicular street with litttle else of note within a 15 minute walk. Not a great choice if you want to be in the thick of it; moreover, we felt the location/area was a bit rough when returning to the hotel late at night after dinner.

Only gripe was that the hotel did not offer complimentary wifi. This is now my pet hate as a frequent traveller. It's nothing more than petty exploitation of the guests and it's something the smarter/wiser establishments have cottoned on to. Come on Observatory - get with the programme and stop tarnishing an otherwise good package.

Well, The Observatory Hotel has it all!
From the moment you walk in into the beautiful lobby you feel very special. You will be greated with a smile and the Front Desk staff will ask all the right questions to ensure you are well looked after.
You can expect the best quality furnishings and classic decor in your room. The housekeeping staff is discrete and friendly.
To top up your perfect day, visit the Galileo restaurant headed by chef Yomoda and try one of his spectacular French style dishes.
The Observatory Hotel in Sydney is a unique boutique style luxurious hotel that you fall in love with and want to come back again and again. Thank you!

Absolutely beautiful hotel and service thats at an international standard. Easy access to all the Sydney attractions. We booked everything online and even booked our tours and attraction tickets to save time on www.ExperienceOz.com.au and got a few bonus deals for doing so. Highly recommend it, everything was just made so easy!

We celebrated our 30th anniversary with a romantic dinner at Galileo's restaurant and a stay-over at this stylish hotel. The service was both warm and efficient and the accommodation was elegant and comfortable. We are sure to return.

The Observatory is practically perfect:
- opening windows
- the fruit on the welcoming platter was ripe (no mean feat in these days of cold stored fruit).
- proper turn down service
- huge rooms and comfort styling

My only quibble would be that the pillows in our room were not the usual exquisite 'floating on air' type that I would expect.

All the touches of a genuinely 5* hotel with staff that are genuinely warm and professional. This is a seriously classy joint.
