“Sydney, great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2014

Pleasant and efficient check-in. Our room was available at 10am which was great, (normal check-in is 2pm). Water view room on third floor was not huge but spacious enough, very comfortable and very clean. Bath with shower overhead was good although bath filling was slow. Excellent location for Sydney Theatre(Pier 4), The Rocks, Opera House and ferries.
Check-out time is a generous 11am which was great for us as we had not booked breakfast inclusive so we could get down to Circular Quay for brekkie and people watching and back for "brush-up" before checking out. It contributed much to a weekend break in the city.

Room Tip: Some rooms have balconies but probably not worth the upgrade.

If your ever holidaying in Sydney, treat yourself and stay here even if only a couple of nights. The views of the ships , boats and ferries coming and going will keep you entertained alone. We had a room with a balcony although small it served its purpose. Excellent place to go for a run or walk in the mornings all the way around to Botanical Garden and past the Opera House, can't fault the service or amenities.

What a lovely hotel! Was really pleasantly surprised with the location, service, and the room!

Pros:
-Love setting right by the harbour and under the bridge
-Bar has a great central location-and the tables outside pack up quickly. The floor inside is glass and you can see the water beneath
-Rooms are very spacious and bed is very comfortable
-Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, separate from shower

Cons:
-Coffee wasn't so grand, save yourself for something else in the Rocks
-Air Con didn't work. Reported it to the concierge and the front desk on two separate occasions, but it wasn't addressed. Thankfully the temperature was somewhat mild
-Windows don't open - hope you're not claustrophobic

Would definitely stay there again - as long as my air con worked.

This restaurant moved into the Marriot umbrella. I booked while it was under the Accor group. The room I got was slightly below ground level and on the roadside. The walls are thin. I could hear the guy next door laughing while watching his TV at 10pm. The toilet was noisy. Not sure.

Room Tip: Sound like waterside is the go.

I stayed at the Pier One last weekend for valentines day, on arrival at the hotel we were told that we had been downgraded due to the hotel being over booked by 25 rooms, whilst this was a pretty disappointing as the point of choosing this hotel was due to it being on the water and us having a water view room, they compensated us by throwing in a free breakfast.

We overall weren't to bothered by the downgrade, however the room they had given us seemed to have some plumbing issues so when i jumped in the shower the drain in the middle of the bathroom started overflowing with water, we contacted reception who sent maintenance up to have a look at it they advised us that we weren't able to use the shower until the problem was fixed after about fifteen minutes they told us it was good to use, the room had a stench throughout it due to the bathroom being flooded, but we were aware that the hotel was over booked so we didn't ask if there was an alternate room to move too. I again tried to go for a shower and when i went to get out i was ankle deep in water - the bathroom had been flooded again, reception sent maintenance up again to have a look at it and sent in house keeping to clean the bathroom, by this stage we didn't have too much time to get ready in the room before our dinner reservation, as we got to the hotel straight after work. We just needed to continue getting ready whilst staff were walking in and out of our room trying to fix the problem, they finally fixed the problem after a little while and housekeeping cleaned out the bathroom, the stench in the room remained, by this time we didn't even have the opportunity to raise it with management due to our dinner reservation.

When we returned back to the hotel after dinner the room was freezing and it appeared that the air conditioning was broken, we contacted reception who confirmed that it was broken and that the only option we had was to leave it on freeze mode or turn it off completely.

The next morning we were keen to just have breakfast and leave. When we were checking out they said to my boyfriend that the rate he got the room for through accor was no longer applicable as Pier One no longer came under the accor hotels group, this was despite we were told a few days early by Pier One that the rate would be honoured, after going back and forth with the reception staff and my boyfriend telling him about the extremely uncomfortable stay we have had he finally confirmed that the rate would be honoured, although no acknowledgement was given to the fact that our stay had been completely disrupted.

I have never had an experience like this at any of the hotels I have stayed in the city. It wasn't so much what happened as it was out of their control it was the way it was the fact that it wasn't addressed in anyway by any of the staff we encountered, or escalated to a manager and the failings of staff to recognise how uncomfortable and disrupted our stay was. it was kind of like it was just our bad luck. What the hotel needs to realise is that people usually book hotels for a weekend away, or a bit of an escape and have the expectation that it will be a seamless stator a least be managed appropriately so that you don’t leave the hotel wishing that you had never chosen to stay their. After our experience, I wish that we were one of the people that were turned away due to the overbooking situation, as we would have avoided what i can only call the worst hotel experience i have ever had.

Staying in one of the suites was really lovely, although the hight of the windows were disappointing in my room as you couldn't see out of them, the bathroom was amazing with a gorgeous spa bath. The staff are really friendly and charming. I would stay here again but ask for a room maybe with lower windows so I Could see that I was on the harbour..

We weren't sure what to expect when I booked this hotel. Needless to say we were very happy when we arrived. Great location - so easy to walk to the Opera House, to The Rocks and to the city. Plenty of dining/bar options nearby. I recommend having a drink in the hotel bar as the view is wonderful. Our room was great!. Very clean and comfortable. On check in I asked for a room with a view. The lady explained that they were full and there were no options. I was more than happy with that but when I got to the room I was amazed. Our view was awesome, looking out over the water to the Opera House as well as a great view of the bridge. We were very impressed with this hotel, its service and location. We will be returning.
