We chose this hotel mainly for the location. The Rocks looked like an interesting area, and I knew we would like its history and architecture. I looked at reviews and websites for several hotels, and it was difficult to choose, but I definitely made a good choice! We stayed here four nights and felt like it was our home away from home.

I had read reviews about the high floors and balconies and great views, but we booked a terrace house because we liked the idea of staying in an old building. The terrace house might not suit everyone, but it was perfect for us! The ground floor had a sitting room and a full kitchen. The bedroom and bath were upstairs. If you look at the pictures provided by the hotel, the picture with the stairs shows what the kitchen looks like. It was a full kitchen, but we only used the electric kettle and the refrigerator. It was nice to be able to have a snack and relax when we returned from sightseeing.

We arrived in the morning, and our room was ready. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean. The shower was excellent. Lots of closet space, including a safe. Iron and ironing board were in one of the closets. One review said there was no alarm clock, but our bedroom did have one.

We didn't mind being right on the street. From the sitting room, we could hear people talking as they walked by. We couldn't hear any street noise from the bedroom. The stairs are narrow and a bit steep, so if climbing stairs is an issue, you might be unhappy with a terrace house. It's the only negative I can think of. We didn't care that we didn't have a balcony and a view of the harbour. It was just a five minute walk to the harbour, with a gorgeous view of the Opera House.

The front desk staff were all wonderful. There was a always a friendly greeting when we returned. They had answers to all of our questions. They arranged a taxi for us on the morning we had to leave. You get three hours of free internet each day. You just ask the front desk, and they give you the password of the day.

The pool was lovely, and very clean. I thought we would use the pool in the afternoons after sightseeing, but it rained every afternoon. I did use the spa, and that was a treat for tired legs!

If I were to return to Sydney, I would stay here again.

Room Tip: If you like history, book a terrace house. And go to the Susannah Place Museum, where you can learn...

My Mother and I shared the Harbour view studio apartment for 4 nights. The view of the Opera house was great (which she loved!). She took the Queen bed - very comfortable she said, and I took the pull-out sofa - a bit mushy, but workable and clean. There were plenty of pillows and blankets. The studio has a kitchenette which was perfect for us to have breakfast and maybe a pre-dinner glass of wine. The closet was big enough for both of us to have a half, and not get in the way of the other, but get real hangars (!). The bathroom is small, but again we made it work.
We had an upper floor room, so it was quiet, surprising for a very busy area.
We went in the outdoor pool - decent, but I hate unheated pools (:, and the gym (or closet is more like it) needs an upgrade. There's no reason not to have hand weights available.
The front desk personnel were always very nice and helpful - lent us an umbrella when it was pouring rain out. I did alot of research, and if you want to be located in the Rocks, this was the best value.

Room Tip: The Harbour view studio is great if you want a kitchenette- has everything to make a full meal.

We stayed here for 3 nights during our month's tour of Australia in February this year (2012). We found the hotel to be clean, comfortable and central (right in the middle of the Rocks) and the staff friendly and helpful. Our bedroom overlooked the swimming pool, had good air con, a balcony and a small kitchen. We didn't use the kitchen as we were only in Sydney for 3 nights but would have found it very useful if we had been staying longer. We only ate breakfast in the hotel, this was buffet style but very good. My only complaint is the chairs were very uncomfortable in the breakfast room but it didn't spoil our time there at all. We ate out every evening as the hotel was based right in the middle of the Rocks and near Circular Quay so plenty of choice of places to eat.

Room Tip: Not sure as ours was perfect for us, very quiet but no view except the swimming pool but that was ok...

Spent just one night in a 1bdrm apartment, the kitchen was adequate for what you needed, a nice large lounge room and seperate bedroom. I loved the old fireplaces, just gave it so much character. You cannot beat the location, a couple of minutes walk to Circular Quay and well as restaurants/bars. Its not a bad walk to Darling Harbour.
We found the hotel very quiet and one of the few hotels in Sydney not affected by street noise. Lovely pool and spa area for a quick dip!

Good location, very helpful staff who checked in our flights on line for us and printed boarding passes. Very good pricing policy on the mini-bar and the room was more than the typical anonymous type you get at some of the larger chains. Would have liked a bar to visit when we got back at the end of the evening for a nightcap and chat with other guests.
