“Fabulous stay in the heart of Sydney”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014

The Westin have set a standard that's hard to beat.
Lovely experience from check in through to check out.
I enjoyed a meal at The Bar in the lobby, a dessert in Mosaic on Level 1 and breakfast for a sellout Business Chicks event in the Grand Ballroom.
Easy walk to all places in the CBD.
The beds are heavenly, but did get hot with the doona, then cool when kicking it off.
Luxuriated in a bubble bath, and even did a spot of work at the desk provided, with a great view over the clock tower.
Will be back!

We stayed at this hotel in March, and had the experience we've come to expect from a Westin. The hotel was an easy walk to the Opera House, botanical gardens, etc. We stayed in a large historical room one floor up from lobby that was in excellent shape. The service was efficient, and the two night stay went quite well. Would stay there again.

I stayed for business trip on 14-18 March and has to stay here because the event was held in this hotel, so no choice for me. I am actually a starwood preferred guest but this property is way below my expectation of a Starwood property.
Yes, the building, interior and rooms are superb. Not to mention the location is in the center of everything, which is perfect for a first impression. But soon after I checked in, I asked about my package that i will use for my business event, and this has been delivered through a courier service, also i got the name of the receiver for the package so the information from my side is clear enough for them to trace it. It took me 45 minutes just to get some information about where is my package stored, and i kept being transferred from one person to another. I tried to be patient after a long flight and tiring day, but I got no answer until i waited for 45 minutes and finally upset and then someone from the concierge called back and said the package was delivered to the convention room. Not a standard service that i expect, to start with.
On the last day of our stay, we had breakfast and apparently it was a long queue as the hostess need some time and we have to wait a while to be seated. It's ok for us, as we are both working in a 5 stars hotel and highly understand this situation. Being waited for quite long, my colleague finally decided to find our own table, we think that we can help the hostess as we see quite a few empty tables, and the hostess said 'OK, you may find your own table'. When we sat on the table, we realized that no cuttleries and napkins are there. We asked for it to the hostess politely and amazingly she got mad at us!! she said 'well that's why you have to wait to be seated, this table is not ready' with an unpolite manner. This is ridiculous. She was the one who allow us to take our own table and we want to help her. But she finally blame us for taking our own seat?!?! She could have just take the cutleries and set it up on the table and say sorry I might take some time to set it up - It's not polite and at that time i thought that this hotel has no hospitality at all.
The most amazing thing is, 2 months after my stay there, i got the bill from my credit card and found out that it is being charged AUD 1,290 for the rooms which i booked through a travel agent, and we have paid FULL for it. How come such a reputable hotel can charge a credit card just like that without approval and without any sign?? Instead, they should contact our travel agent and ask for the payment if the travel agent hasn't paid for it yet, not charging the credit card of the customer directly! This is totally unacceptable and they should have used my credit card to guarantee the accidental charges only, not charging the whole amount of room charge which i have paid before - without my approval! We have stayed in 6 hotels in 6 different cities in Australia at that time and booked through the same travel agent, but out of 6 hotels that we stayed for this trip (Sofitel, Pullman, Hyatt and all are reputable brands), we only got a problem in this hotel. How wierd is that?
I have contacted the hotel and spoken with finance department but he said that he will need some time to forward this issue to other department. My credit card is due already and I am the one who has to make an overseas call, talk to the hotel and the credit card issuer and this is a total disaster!
I don't expect those things to happen to me as I paid more than USD 350 / room / night for a standard room and it's just not value for money at all.
I will not stay in this hotel in the future and recommend it to anyone else, for sure!!

My husband and I recently stayed in the Westin for 2 nights. What a spectacular building where somehow a Heritage building fuses seamlessly into a very modern one. I think it is just a matter of preference as to whether you prefer to stay in the old or new building because I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with a room here. They are sizable, luxurious and meticulously clean. The location is perfect, right in the centre of the city, walking distance (1.5km) to Circular Quay, its ferries and of course the great views of the Sydney Harbor Bridge and the Opera House. Not to mention the charm and character (and many eateries) of The Rocks. The only negatives I would be inclined to mention would be that I felt that the staff on the front line were a little lacking with regards to warmth and friendliness throughout the whole stay. Also, drinks and food at the restaurant and the bar were overpriced. Given all that Sydney has to offer, you don't have to walk far to find plenty of other fine places to eat and drink in any case.

Thank you for conveying your comments following your recent experience at The Westin Sydney. We are delighted you could take advantage of our central location and you could experience the stunning architecture of the former General Post Office building and Clock Tower. Thank you for your further comments regarding our front desk associates and we sincerely regret if they did not come across as friendly and welcoming as it was certainly not their intention. We recently stayed here 2 nights in the Executive Tower room. We enjoyed the Executive club lounge and found if you arrived earlier you received a little more personalized service, as well as a small tray of hors devours to snack on. They offered free alcoholic drinks too. We also had breakfast here and was happy with the fresh fruit and pastries offered. We paid around $570 US per night for the room and found we got more bang for the buck on our visit the Blue Sydney, (see my other review). This did include use of the lounge where we had our breakfasts which usually costs $30-$50 per person anyway.

There was no spectacular view from the room or the club lounge. Just other office buildings.

We checked out the pool and gym which is located in the older building and it is a HIKE to get to it. The pool was small and is at the end of a labyrinth of rooms and work out spaces in the gym. Fun to find though.

The room was clean and the bed was VERY comfy. I was surprised to find that their linens were made from manmade fibers and not linen or cotton.

The location was VERY central to everything. It is literally in the center of the city. The drinks and food offered in the bar downstairs was good, but not large servings.

A great hotel for business.

Room Tip: The club lounge is worth the additional cost.

Dear GeoSanFran

Thank you for posting your feedback online following your recent stay at The Westin Sydney. We are delighted that you took comfort in one of our Executive rooms and enjoyed our signature Westin Heavenly® beds. We however regret if the view from your accommodation room as well as from the Executive Lounge did not meet your expectations.

As you may be aware the pool is a facility part of the privately operated Good Life Health Club and is designed for lap swimming. We sincerely regret if it did not meet your expectations.

Thank you also for your observations regarding our meal serving size in the Bar, Lounge and Room. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back when you are next in Sydney.

Great location, easy walking to all parts of the city. Staff very welcoming and helpful from check in to the lounge staff. We were lucky to have access to the fabulous lounge for breakfast and evening drinks. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting Sydney who would like to be in the centre of the action yet removed from the hustle and bustle when inside the hotel.

Room Tip: If you can upgrade to the Towers, go for it. Spacious rooms and great views.

A reservation on last minute secret hotels gave us a great surprise when we found out after booking a secret hotel, that we has secured a room at The Westin Sydney. We have always loved this hotel but had never stayed in the Heritage side. Beautifully appointed room, very spacious and massively high ceilings added to the feeling of grandeur. Beds here are super comfortable with a range of pillow types.
Only real niggle was with parking at $70 per night which made our super value room a tad on the expensive side when checking out. Everyone knows parking is at a premium in Sydney but $70 a night is a bit steep - just glad we were not staying for a week!!!!!

Room Tip: I'd opt for a Heritage room - tower rooms are good and have club floor in this side but I loved...
