“Contemprary Art and Music”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

I was amazed at the beautiful 3 D presentations and how well the Art gallery had arranged exhibits on each floor. Great views of the harbour can be had from level floor where there is a modern style café which appears to be very busy no matter what the time or day. There is a good interactive display on level 3 especially for children and would be of interest to educators as well. It has a neat shop on ground level where some interesting souvenirs can be discovered.

“For those who like 19th century Australian art, it is a must.”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

This gallery has one of the best collections of 19th century Australian art (although it's loans to London in 2013 brought together pictures from here, Melbourne and Adelaide).

“Quality ,a most enjoyable experience”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

Set in a area of green the sandstone building is already a treat. The art is well hung in open an easily accessible areas. The art itself gives a good insight into Australian artists both indigenous and European. Many times there are special exhibitions which are well worth the visit. Free entrance to general museum.
Perhaps a slight downside is the bistro/restaurant where one has to wait a bit too long in lines to order one's drinks, etc. Also a bit pricey.

“Good place to wander on a weekend”

Great pieces - just needs more to fill the empty spaces.
Great Archibald exhibit. We were lucky to see 2 young finalists for the 2014 Archibald prize - it would have been good to have seen something like these on display.

“brilliant gallery”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

This is one of the most comprehensive australian state art galleries. It has a large variety of arts on show and its collection includes famous works that are wellknown and easily recognisable for all. There is a lot of gallery space and many artworks are on display. I would go back here.
