We didn't take the tour, but just walked all around and inside the building. Read the Wikipedia entry or some such info before you visit - will help you appreciate the architecture and history of the building. If you are in Sydney for a bit, do go a couple of times - during the day, and then at night.

A visit to Sydney wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Opera House! A short walk from Circular Quay, I went to see La Sylphide - a ballet by the Australian Ballet. The building is iconic and spacious inside. Drink at the bar and look out over the harbour - and the Harbour Bridge.

“Mary, Queen of the Tours”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

A very enjoyable tour conducted by a fantastic tour quide called Mary. You had a look inside 2 of the theatres which unfortunately you couldn't take any Pics off.2 video's to watch, first of how the building came about and the second on how the architect was treated once the government changed halfway through the build.Saw the VIP area, didn't think it looked the plush to be honest. But really enjoyed the tour as Mary our guide was so informative, funny and a delight.

“An amazing building in stunning location”
Reviewed 23 November 2013 via mobile

Even if you are not an opera fan, it is worth checking out what is on as the building hosts several auditoriums as well as the iconic opera house. I went to see Romeo and Juliet in a small theatre tucked away at the back and it was excellent. You can also eat outside on the terrace overlooking the famous bridge although inevitably the food is quite pricey, but it was still very busy
