Let’s keep Simpsons at the top of the chart in Sydney. We stayed there for a total of 15 nights in February & March 2012, using this B&B as our home base while travelling to New Zealand and the east coast of Australia. It was a perfect home away from home. The owners Keith & Marie and their staff members Ree, Damian and Juanita make guests feel warmly welcomed and are helpful to them in every way. I miss Marie’s stewed rhubarb, raspberries and apples at breakfast!

Always uplifting to us at "Simpsons" to receive an enthusiastic Review.

We do try to give friendly and helpful personal service, whenever we can, and to assist guests enjoy what Sydney, and our pleasant Potts Point neighbourhood, has to offer.

As we have said, we do not have all the modern facilities of a chain hotel, and there is the odd paint blemish in our 120-year old building, but all the comfortsa are there to hopefully offer an enjoyable stay.

We stayed here 2 nights prior to a cruise. Arrived after a very long flight from seattle. Our room was ready when we got there at 930 am. we freshend up and started our day with advice from Ree on where to go. We walked every where from Simpsons, to the gardens, sydney harbor and the rocks, very nice stroll to take. Need to be somewhat physically fit to walk this far. There are many restaurants a short block from simpsons that are good. The owners are very accomodating and friendly. The coffee and breakfast excellent!

We get many guests in January and February who are either departing on, our arriving from a South Pacific Cruise, and this is the busiest time in Sydney.

Whilst our official check-in time is 3.00pm. (like most hotels), we do try to get rooms ready as soon as possible, especially for our long distance travellers. Unlike most hotels, however, we do also have a downstairs bathroom where early arriving guests are welcome to "freshen up", and we can also store luggage whist they go exploring.

And for those departing guests with a later flight, we can also store their luggage, and they are also welcome to use this bathroom before boarding their flight home.

These guests are correct that it lovely to walk almost everywhere from "Simpsons", especially through the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens. The walk to the historic "Rocks" area is a little further and would take about 45-minutes to go the long way via Mrs. Macquaries Point , the Opera House and Circular Quay.

Ree and I enjoy showing guests things to do to make the most of their time in this wonderful city.

Though a bit of a splurge (for us, at least), five nights at "Simpson" was a delight in every respect . . . from the charm of the historic building, to the friendly and attentive service of Keith, Marie, Ree and their staff, to the ideal Potts Point setting. We have looked at the three-star reviews, wondering what negatives we might have missed, and they seem to have been written by the kinds of self-absorbed tourists who cannot adjust to the slightest inconvenience. The climb up to the dormer rooms is a bit challenging for seniors, and we must admit that our mattress wasn't as supportive as we would have liked, but keeping on the go in Sydney for several days helped us sleep well anyway. The continental breakfast was plentiful and healthy, and the kitchen help was accommodating—even on duty before hours as needed. We met many other guests who, like ourselves, just seemed delighted to enjoy the comfortable sitting/living areas, with a glass of port in the afternoon. And several fine cafes/restaurants were only steps away. Marvelous views of the city skyline only steps in the other direction. "Boutique" hotel seems a reasonable characterization, and "value" is a relative measure when one considers the exchange rate and the cost of living in Sydney.

Thankyou for your thoughtful Review. We are glad that these guests enjoyed their stay her, including our healthy complimentary breakfasts, and the great choice of cafes and restaurants.

We are sorry that they did not find the mattresses supportive enough. This is a difficult issue, as you will see elsewhere some other guests found our beds too firm. We have spoken with our suppliers, and they tell us that the mid-firmness that we have is the most popular median for quality hotels, but we will certainly keep an open mind on this issue.

There is no doubt that Australia has become an expensive place to visit, mainly because of the increase in the Australian dollar, and the fall in the other major currencies, and also our high level of wages in the hospitality industry. Restaurants, and alcohol are certainly dearer than America, in particular. Hopefully this will not deter too many overseas guests from visiting what really is an interesting country, and Sydney a beautiful city.

we stayed at this wonderful place, hidden away from the hustle and bustle, very quiet and private. a beautiful building full of heritage, patina-formed leather couches and historical bookshelves. the housekeeper was absolutely friendly and kind lady. the room we had was a family room a queen size bed and single bed. we loved the space, it was a spacious room, with a sofa corner for tv, we wished there were more TV channels though. made us felt like home immediately. both Keith and marie were very friendly people who offered plenty of information to us. just a few walks away, you can see the view of the harbour bridge. It was very near the kingcross station which enabled us easy travelling to the CBD area. it was a very rainy period and thank goodness there were umbrellas given to us. you can also bring ur breakfast tray to bring breakfast to eat in your own room, in your own privacy and comfort. simpsons felt like a mansion with beautiful ornaments, we simply felt really comfortable and relax during our stay. It was very very lovely.

We are glad that our Singaporean guests felt at home at "Simpsons".

There is a comfortable ambience about our old house, a "refuge" from everyday life!

Our manager, Ree is always keen to help our guests with any questions and guidance on what to do, and Marie and I are also pleased to share our knowkedge of this great city of Sydney.

Thankyou for staying at "with us!

Cheers....Keith and all of us at "Simpsons"!

After a long 2011 me and my wife decided to do something special for the Christmas and the New Year holidays ..... so we said why not Sydney. After a long and careful research we "felt" that Simpsons of Potts Point is the place we would like to spend our 16 days of adventure.
Now, after almost 3 months the trip to Sydney feels almost surreal. In the beginning we thought it will be a nice time spent in a nice and big metropolis .... it wasn't like that ... Sydney manged to blew our minds, I never thought Sydney would be so amazing.

A very big part of this great surprise was Simpsons of Potts Point. On one side the building is a superb piece of victorian architecture full with small details, like the brick facade, the wooden pieces, the distinct but discrete ornaments on the walls, the old air vents in the rooms, the large and generous staircase, etc. Not to mention the details of the furnishing, vintage solid wooden chest-drawers, large crystal mirrors, the fireplace and paintings.
In our travel experience, a very beautiful place, in the end, is just a place. What really makes a place special is the people that run it and, in our case, Keith, Marie, Ree and Damion were more then hosts ... I, for one, could have stayed for hours just chatting and sharing experiences with them. When we needed them they made the impossible possible. I remember discovering that there is a big event on 26th of December, the Sydney-Hobart sailing race. That morning Keith asked if we booked a place on one of the ships that follow the starting of the race in the Sydney harbor... of course we did not, but with Keith's help we had a very exciting, adrenalin-pumping experience.
As for the location, after we visited a lot of what Sydney has to offer, I do not think (in our case) there is a better place to stay in Sydney... Lots of restaurants to choose from and in walking distance, quite and peaceful, but with a little bit of color and taste. We read about the people being sceptic about the King Cross area, but I do not understand why. It is a lively, nice and colorful area. We did not know how to make it possible to come back home through this area, just because of its interesting contrast, not feeling the need to be cautious at any time.... and after crossing this "busy" part and stopping for a delicious meal at one of the restaurants, our daily journey ended on the calm and quiet steps of Simpsons.

... Can anyone imagine that every morning we were getting up on the tuning wave of cockatoo's singing. There were free parrots strolling freely around the Potts Point... Amazing....

Can't wait to come back to Simpsons, just to sip form the delicious morning french pressed coffee and chat with our friends ....

We remember this lovely young couple from Roumania....,,they were an absolute delight to have stay, and we enjoyed giving them ideas on what to see in this wonderful city.

Whilst Sydney, like any big city, has certain negatives, and some suburban areas that it is best to avoid, it is a city blessed with great natural beauty, and an array of interesting placed to visit.

Unless you need to be right in the middle of the CBD, Potts Point is a great place to stay, an interesting and eclectic neighbourhood, full of great little cafes, bars, restaurants, boutiques, etc., as well as all the usual conveniences, yet only 15-20 minutes pleasant stroll to the city, along the harbour, or through the Royal Botanic Gardens.

We went down to Sydney for an Engagement Party that was happening in Paddington, so we were looking for a hotel in that area and something a bit different from staying in the CBD as we normally do. Found Simpson's from Trip Advisor and got sensible prices for the weekend we were staying there.

The hotel is in a great location as it gives great access to the city and also the opportunity to explore the eastern suburbs. It is a beautiful building, cannot imagine why somebody wanted to and was allowed to turn it into flats at some point? We really enjoyed our stay and thought breakfast was great.

We have two more similar trips to make later in the year and will hopefully stay again.

We are glad that you found us!

Trip Advisor can certainly be a helpful guide, and we ourelves use it all the time when we travel.

I always look up the negative reviews first (and "Simpsons" has a couple I am sorry to say!), but often you have to "read between the lines", and look at the overall picture.

I find that by spending a few moments going through a range of reviews, you can build up an accurate overall impression of what to expect.

Yes, "Simpsons" is very well located, not just to walk into the City, but also for its proximity to other eastern suburbs, the "edginess" of Darlinghurst and Surry Hills, the Woolloomooloo waterfront restaurants, the trendiness of Paddington and its Saturday markets, the sophistication of Woollahra Village. We have it all nearby !

"Simpsons", originally known as "Killountan" after the family home in Ireland of the first owner, the Irish Catholic philanthropist, John Lane-Mullins, was designed by the well known architect John Bede Barlow, not in the traditional Victorian decorative style, but the new "Arts and Crafts" style, then becoming popular in Europe.

Restored to its former glory in 1988, it represents one of the few surviving old mansions in this area, and its historic ambience is now able to be shared by all our guests!

The photographs were lovely but nowhere near the reality which was a beautifu arts and crafts style spacious property. The attention to detail of the facilities provided was first rate and made our stay a memorable experience. The warm and informative greeting from Keith was much appreciated as was his presence at breakfast every day, available in his office for all his guests. Lovely staff provided a really good breakfast with a tasty variety of fruits, cereals, breads, eggs and ham. Yes bathrooms not luxury but provide all that we needed and were clean with efficient showers. We will defintely be returning to Potts Point as this now feels like a second home. Highly recommend this for quality, location and friendly service.

Thankyou Mary!

I think that you summed us up very well!

I am pleased that you found me helpful, as well as all our other breakfast staff.

Yes, "Simpsons" is set within a lovely old 1892 "Arts and Crafts" style mansion, and has been much loved over the years.

A few paint chips here and there, but we hope that the overall ambience compensates for any minor shortcomings in decor!

Thanks again for reviewing us......Keith and the "Simpsons" gang!
