The CBD is Sydney talk for "downtown Sydney", a huge area that mixes high-rise office buildings with shopping malls, hotels, museums and everything else you could imagine. It's busy. It's crowded. It's fast-paced. Sydney is as lively and challenging to the visitor as any other big city. The overall tone of the place changes dramatically on weekends versus weekdays, as well as the aforementioned day-night contrast. Most people who work or visit the city during the day commute back to the suburbs at night.

Pedestrians should beware of traffic and crossing streets. Too many people are being hit by vehicles.

I recommend a walk around the area surrounding the Sydney Town Hall, which has so much life.

Please be careful of the George Street precinct on Saturday nights. It's getting dangerous.

This is arguably the best location to be in for a vacation (or presumably any trip- I was on vacation). It's a great place to people watch, visit, and stroll around. It's also in close proximity (or easily accessible by public transportation or taxi) to many of the more famous Sydney attractions. It's known to Australians as the CBD.

I stayed at CBD area on my recent vacation in sydney. Very strategic place and very convenient to almost anywhere within the city. Plenty of shopping centres, restaurants, eateries, tourist spots, coffee shops, take aways. CBD of sydney is very interesting place where you can find a mixture of old and modern architecture building with a mixture of people. This place has something for everyone. All modes of public transport will pass through the area from trains, busses and light rail trams.

Its a metropolis by day,but very quiet at night. There is however,a colorful night scene scattered throughout. Consult local papers or internet for location.
Start your CBD odyssey with a visit through the Queen Victoria Building which takes up an entire city block. Its a brilliantly restored 1898 former produce market that now is a retail therapy epicenter and must-eat location.
Scoot down to the Marble Bar for a traveller's 'pick-me-up' while admiring this beautiful landmark. The Zeta Bar,upstairs is a fantastic, sophisticated evening hangout The Hilton hotel is so well placed here.
Up the road is the State Theatre,a gentrified 1929 cinema which glitters and is richly decorated. You are now ready to soar to the summit of town at Sydney Tower with its observatory that allows you a bird's eye view of the whole Sydney all the way from the shores to the mountains, There is a revolving, some say revolting, restaurant on top dishing out mediocre fare. Stick to the view.
For shopping therapy its to Skygarden shopping arcade you head, with its elegant shops and boutiques with a highly recommended rooftop bar. Its time to now explore The Strand Arcade for a 'back in time' look at the elegantly restored example of Victorian Era shopping experience.
Rest time me thinks,in the sunny or shaded Martin Place, a busy work place hangout with the symmetrical facade of the Renaissance style General Post Office (GPO) one of the finest flanking this large square. Check out the exemplary eateries found here especially The GPO eatery.

Sydney's CBD is a fascinating mix of old and new architecture, amazing shops and interesting people. So many things are within walking distance and there truly is something for everyone. Weird and wonderful, a visit to the CBD is a definite must do in Sydney.
