“Perfect visitor's day out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 October 2012

The beautiful ferry ride form the city is only the beginning. With gorgeous harbour beaches both sides of the ferry wharf in Manly, it's worth a short walk along the Corso to the sea side of Manly. The ocean beach is spectacular, and second to none as a suburban city beach with miles of white sand and clear pacific water. An afternoon stroll to Shelley Beach is a must. Plenty of cafes and restaurants to temp the hungry.

If you're a walker, turn left off the ferry and walk along the harbour to Fairlight. Beautiful aspect and if you're really keen walk all the way to Spit Bridge Mosman and catch a bus back! Beautiful views and natural bushland, especially in the autumn or spring.

“Fun fun fun”

Nice and clean, lots of space because most of the tourists are at Bondi. While you are there why not try roller blading or the surf school?

“Extremely well-developed beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 October 2012

My followers know that I generally dislike beaches -- too much sand on them. However, Manly is backed by civilization, manned by stalwart-looking lifeguards, and surrounded by a very well planned boardwalk. That and it has an excellent surf when the wind from Peru arrives. It's easily reachable from the ferry so even I had no excuse for avoiding it. Thankfully, I did not. The dislikable sand is fine, there were few rocks further out the no-swim areas (due to cross currents) were well marked. It is also a family beach, which I prefer, meaning that all ages were present when we attended, lending a casual ambiance to things. Highly recommended -- especially because you'll enjoy the ferry ride as well.

“Better Beaches Elsewhere”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 October 2012

Manly/Bondi, everyone does these, but they are a bit tacky. Personally i prefer the northern beaches near Mona Vale, north of Manly. They are spectacular&not nearly so busy. If staying in the city, the L90 bus from Central Station will get you all the way to beautiful Palm Beach&others on the way. Pre-pay before you board, though. If you are lucky enough to know a northern beaches local, get them to drive you to the "Bible Garden" - funny name/gorgeous lookout over Palm Beach. Wow.
