Apart views of the famous opera house and the harbour bridge in Circular Quay the ferries are an excellent way to travel and cruise the harbour. The Manly ferry will take you from the downtown area to the seaside in 30 mins. The river cat will take you from the quay on the Parramatta river via Rydalmere to Parramatta. Other places you can visit are:
Darling Harbour
Eastern suburbs-Rose Bay & Watsons bay.
Mosman and Taronga zoo.
Neutral bay
Cockatoo Island via the Balmain/Woolwich service.
If your in Sydney for a week it's worth buying the MyMulti 3 at A$61 weekly ticket. You can use all the ferries and the whole transport network, an express train to Woollengong in the south(80kms) takes 90mins or west to the Blue Mountains.
Say hello to Charlotte and Scarborough when your in Circular Quay.

its a wonderful place. Very close to circular Quay railway station. Just get out of the railway station & u will be in the harbour. Ferry rides are fantastic. Ferry from Sydney harbour to Manly beach was breathtaking. Harbour bridge was lovely. I did not climb on the arch. I walked on the pathway which i liked most. Better to walk in the evening. Its fabulous to view opera house from the bridge during day & night. Do not forget to carry camera, walking shoes, umbrella.

There are plenty of ferries that offer a cheap way to explore the harbour and much more interesting than a tourist boat trip. Start from Circular Quay, which has excellent public transport links and is a thriving hub after dark with amazing city lights, view of the bridge and the opera house as well as places to eat outdoors.
I took the ferry to Manly which gives a great view of the east harbour as well as the town, beach and coastal walk around Manly itself. There is a choice of traditional ferry or faster and more expensive catamaran

Great to visit this iconic site. The place is mobbed, but it has a cool vibe. Our hotel room looked out over the harbor so we were able to enjoy the views 24/7. The harbor is frequently inhabited by a large cruise ship, so timing is important; however, it was neat to see the cruise ship pull in and park in such a small space!!

We where in Sydney to meet up with a cruise ship. Sydney Harbor is amazing, the bridge and Opera House are right there. You can catch a boat ride to the Zoo, Manly and Bondi Beach and you just can walk around and visit all the little shops and restaurants. There are many hotels in the area, people are very nice and friendly. Cruise ships dock across from the Opera House. Just a beautiful area.
