We went on a Viking ship to view Goat Island sipping champagne on the way. Moving out in Sydney harbour the wonderful views of the opera house , the bridge and the helicopters monitoring securing for the G8 summit was amazing. Our guide was a Scottish gentleman named Colin who was excellent. The way he described everything you would think he had actually experienced it himself despite the fact that it was 100 years before his time. This was an amazing tour and the buildings that were developed by the prisoners with very primitive tools were astonishing . It was absolutely a fantastic trip and I would recommend it . I must say Colin made the tour extremely interesting and brought his wonderful character, personality and life long experiences to deliver a very enjoyable morning.

My amazing Sydney hosts bought us tickets to the island for NYE. It is a $187 pp ferry ride with return ticket that allows you access to the BYOB section of the island for new year's eve.

Unparalleled fireworks. Totally worth it. This has got to be the BEST way to see NYE fireworks in Sydney.

We booked to be on Goat Island for the New Years Eve Celebrations and were lucky to join 700 other people who managed to get a ticket. We boarded a ferry and at this event you are allowed to bring your own alcohol and picnic, whereas most of Sydney waterfront bans alcohol on New Year,s Eve.
There are 2 ferries one at at 1830 and 1915 and once yiu reach Goat Island you walk around from the jetty to the side facing Sydney Harbour Bridge. The view is amazing we were in the middle of the bay looking straighg at the bridge and down past the Opera House which is partially obxcured. We set up the picnic area and settled in for the evening, there are toilet facilities which were clean and people bring music etc so the atmosphere is great. The first fireworks are at 2100 which are for the children so as parents can then put them to bed, these were spectacular, before these a stunt pilot put on a show over the harbour.
You can also see the fireworks at Darling Harbour so 2 for the price of one ! There are fireworks at certain times as the countdown begins and then the main event at midnight and boy does Sydney live up to the hype the firewirk display is awesome and we had a view to die for. After the fireworks plenty of singing and celebrating before the ferries collect you at 0100, we had a great time and a New Years Eve to remember. Do it if you can. Derek and Jo

The trip to goat Island was fun... If you are wanting posh this isn't the trip for you. If you are wanting some Australia heritage experience then this is perfect.... After arriving for lunch that we had in a shed we were guided around the island with a tour guide. The views were stunning and the drinks were cold. A great Aussie experience.

The convicts, castles and champagne tour was thoroughly enjoyable. Our guide Colin was really good, very knowledgable and the other staff who organised our lunch were also friendly. Our lunch was made up of various salads, ham, beef and prawns, as well as many different drinks to choose from.
On the ferry across & back, there was also champagne or beer.
Even on our return to the ferry, they had mini muffins to everyone's surprise!
The tour showed all the islands historical sites, like convict Bony Anderson's rock, tv series 'water rats' head quarters, the harbour wardens mansion but my favourite and worth doing the tour just to see was the queens magazine! A big sandstone building with so much history and character..
Definitely great also for photography lovers....
