Stayed here after going clubbing with mates. Wasnt too happy climbing up a few flight of stairs after going clubbing at the cross. The bathrooms were ok. The room we booked though there wasnt extra security lock on it, the room had a must smell and the tv was tiny. The floor was really dirty and the noise outside didnt do any justice. This place needs to be renovated and it is also over priced for the quality you're getting. Be aware thatbthey do ask for your id for security when you check in

We stayed for two nights. The room was stinky, bathroom a mess but worst of all:

Even though it is advertized to have free wifi (it is actually written in big letter on the building), the wifi is only free for an hour. This is not acceptable because the prize for the additional wifi is a rip off and wifi is one of the basic needs when being on holidays (especially if you are visiting from the other end of the world).

A friendly clean place though a little rickety. Dormitories with clean shared bathrooms, strong bunker beds & fridge though no room heater. Common area with complete kitchen & limited (cereal, mil, bread) choice unlimited quantity breakfast. Value for budget money when the priority is a good night's sleep.

We stayed there 3 nights. The room was ok but smelling and with dirty carpet on the floor. Bathrooms were always dirty and the most anoying thing was the kitchen opening time. It was almost always closed. When you want to wash your dishes to let it clean for future cooks, the staff is very rude and pushes you out. In general the staff was very rude. Check out at 9am is also boring, why not even earlier??? Come on guys with the cleaning you are making you don't need 5 hours to clean a room..... Well you can find better than this in Sydney with nice and helpful people.
Last thing, it is written everywhere you can have free wifi which is not true. You got only one free hour and then you must pay.

We spent at this hostel for 2 nights. Before choosing it we read some reviews and made some comparison between hostels in Kings Cross and Sydney CBD. Location of the hostel is good and close by train station. However there is also plenty of hostels nearby.
We booked a private room. It has double bed, fridge, TV and a basin. Room was pretty clean but the view is not very impressive. Just another house close by.
Showers weren't very special as a tap is not very big and a flow would be a bit stronger.
In kitchen there is a rule we haven't confront before. And that's you have to ask for pans and pots from reception and leave your key as a deposit. Just wondering how this is going to work when the hostel is fully booked? We thought it would keep pans in better condition but at least a pan we got didn't make any difference we had experienced before in another hostels. In addition there are plenty of rules on the walls everywhere.
Otherwise hostel is pretty clean.
Anyway according to reviews we were expecting bit more.

This place is great, the room is a good size, nice comfy bed, small but very good digital tv, decent size in room fridge, sink and mirror.

The kitchen here is great, always clean and tidy, exchange key for pots and pans, and good equipment. Oven, gas and electric hobs.

Always something on, massive tv and bean bags in TV room. Good location, right in the heart of kings cross.

Highly recommended!

Myself and my friend visited this hostel for 4 nights over a weekend in April. We booked this as it was a hostel our cousin had stayed in. We were not disappointed. Everyone warned us about the Kings Cross area where the hostel is located as it was known to be a bit dangerous and not very safe. We did not find this at all! We loved the atmosphere around Kings Cross, found all the bars friendly and lively as well as the people. The hostel itself straight away felt homely, and we liked that they had rules in place to keep people safe and to respect others. Straight away another resident took our bags up the stairs for us and we honestly found everyone we met friendly and sociable. We were lucky with this but we think this is down to the environment Jolly Swagmans promotes. Both myself and my friend are in our 30's but didn't feel out of place in this hostel at all. We loved all the extra activities put on, including BBQ night, movie night with popcorn and fish and chip night. This was all either free or discounted. Our room was a 4 bed female share, as was clean and a good size. We were lucky to have a fan and a balcony as it was very warm even coming into the Aussie winter. The bathroom was acceptable as well but maybe needed more regular cleaning. It was also fairly easy to walk into the city centre and the harbour bridge, around 45 minutes. If we travelled back to Sydney we would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 27 and this had a balcony
