We stayed recently overnight in their refurbished rooms above the hotel. What a great place to discover. We had been to the hotel on many occasions for a drink and food but we only discovered a short time ago that the hotel offered accommodation. On first look, given the age of the building we didnt expect much but the website showed a completely different picture. The rooms were refurbished about 10 years ago but all look new and up to date AND they all have ensuites, which to us was a real plus.

The room we had was spacious, plently of light, comfortable king size bed, good pillows and warm. Just an inviting place to stay. Cost was very reasonable at $200 per night. I challenge anyone to find accommodation that competes at this price in the Rocks.

Included in the tariff was a continental breakfast. I am generally a bacon and eggs man but I stayed with the continental breakfast and was glad I did. Plenty of cereal and toast and individual fresh fruit plates, with tea and coffee. Plenty of food to start the day.

The only downside is the 3 or 4 flights of stairs to be climbed to the rooms. Its to be expected in a building this age and really wasn't a problem but it may be an issue for anyone with overly bad legs who may struggle with stairs, no lift.

We love the Rocks area and always look for opportunities to spend time here. Now that we have found ongoing reasonable accommodation, our visits will be more frequent.

You wont be disappointed with your stay here

When we visited Sydney 2 years ago we ate here several times and the food and beer were great. On our return to Sydney we went back for "pie" night. What can I say. The pie looked like it had been bought from the "pie man store", the German type beer was so sweet it was undrinkable. Wish we never bothered going back!

The last time I was in the Lord Nelson was in 1982 along with a lot of other lads "down from the bush" in the Hunter Valley construction projects. Lets just say that back then it wasn't the family friendly venue it is today, but all I could see a couple of Sundays ago was a place I am sorry not to be able to visit more frequently. It was wonderful to see tables of families getting together and enjoying themselves in the bar - this is the quintessential old English pub with a brilliant selection of beers brewed on the premises. Sat up at the bar and for a starter had the Victory Bitter and then the Old Admiral . This is what great beer is all about and Sydneysiders are a lucky bunch to have this on their doorstep ! Lovely menu but went with the pie, mushy peas and mash with gravy and this simple meal absolutely hit the spot. The pie was chunky and with good pastry and with smooth mash , peppery gravy and I am very partial to mushy peas. Did not stay at the hotel but that would definitely be on the cards next trip !

Beer in Australia is expensive for provincial Brits, but you don't mind paying so much if it is good beer. The beer brewed at the Lord Nelson hotel is excellent. My wife and I spent an evening with friends at the Lord Nelson and had a bar meal. The food was good and reasonably priced, but the 5 star rating is for the beer - jewels in a Australian lager desert.

Have just spent four nights at the Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel in Millers Point, Sydney. The location and ambience were exactly what we were seeking for our short Sydney stay. Our room on the top floor was clean, very well appointed and offered a most comfortable bed. The bar was atmospheric, as you would expect from such an historic pub, and obviously very popular with Sydney-siders. If you like craft brewed beers, then this is the place to be. Highly recommend the Double Nelson and the Three Sheets brews. The bar food is also very good. Didn't get a chance to visit the first floor restaurant for an evening meal, but the continental breakfast on offer was more than satisfactory and very substantial and included in the room price. I have to say they served the best muesli I've ever tasted in a hotel. More than happy with the friendly and efficient service. We chose the hotel because of the location in Sydney's historic Rocks precinct and we were not disappointed. In addition, central Sydney, the Opera House. the Bridge and the harbour ferries and trains are all within a short walking distance. We would definitely choose the Lord Nelson when next we stay in Sydney. As a final comment, we should be ever thankful for Jack Mundey and the Builders Labourers Federation green bans that saved The Rocks from the developer's wrecking ball back in 1970s.

Room Tip: As you would expect in such an historic building there is no lift, so if mobility is a problem, ask...

My husband and i stayed 6 days at the lord nelson, Being in such a old building and that being in the so called ROCKS area, was wonderful,
The staff were ok, bar staff were not that friendly (i worked in a pub brewery for many years) a smile and hello go along way,, Only problem we found was the office was not open early in the morning, or when we got back in the afternoon, so when trying to find out information like where to do laundry, there was no one to help.(others have said the same thing, WHO do we ask) . we were out the door by 9am most mornings, so if you leave later this should be fine, our room was very nice and clean, Like others have said, the rooms are on the upper floors, so many stairs, no one helped us with our bags,, Love the rock area, nice walk into the small shops location, market onTthursdays, foodies market was fun onFfriday, with tastings of local restaurants, we used the local bus service, A bus stop is across from the hotel, but taxis are also around , The food at the lord nelson was very good, we did'nt eat in the restaurant upstairs, but it was busy. It is a busy bar with many locals popping in after work, but the doors do close by 11pm, there is NO noise from the bar when we were in our room, but road noise was not that bad,Tthere is wifii but its not great, WE do want to put a shout out to KEN, he was in the restaurant every morning for breakfast, he helped out when the other staff were running late, his a local and told us many things about the area and where to go. If you like a concierge this b&b is not for you, FYI they do give out hair dryers, from the office, ALL in ALL a nice place to stay, BUT the office needs to be more available,

Easy walk to many major sites, ( opera house & weekend market) friendly personnel , very clean, good value. Many interesting restaurants around the hotel, but enjoyed the menu at Lord Nelson. Would suggest reservations at restaurant on weekend. Most of the people I observed eating there were not staying at The Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel.
Our flight arrived early morning, but the hotel stored our luggage in the office until our return. Workers from the brewery carried them up two flights of stairs.
We stayed in one of the rooms with a private bath. Television & wifi were available. Very comfortable beds & plenty of room for the two of us and all our luggage.

Would stay there again, if ever in Sydney. It was the favorite part of our vacation.
