“Tired wanna be...”
Reviewed 8 January 2013

The hotel has very friendly young staff who try really hard to make your stay a good one. Unfortunately, the lack of investment and maintenance has left this a tired property in great need of renovation.
Good location for people needing to get around Sydney as it is across from Central Station.
Decent buffet breakfast in the morning and they, at least, supply bathrobes.
Over-priced for the state of the hotel.

Room Tip: Make certain it is one the other side from the train station or it can be quite noisy.

My wife and I have just returned from a 3 day visit at the Sebel.
We arrived early and were given a warm reception. We registered and had our bags stored.
We returned later to another pleasant reception. Our bags had been delivered to the room. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. It included a small lounge area.
On the following day I was resting in bed because of a leg injury when a young woman arrived to service the room. My wife declined room service but we were pleasantly served with new linen and fresh milk..
Later that day as we passed the same young woman she wished us good day and asked if I was now feeling better.
Our Sydney based daughter joined us for a swim in the Pool and then for breakfast in the Dining Room. We all thought that it was an excellent meal very well presented.
At check out I asked if there was a computer accessible to allow me to check in for our flight and get printed Boarding Passes. The response which came with a big smile was 'I can do that for you!'
We returned in the afternoon, collected our bags and sat in the comfort of the main lounge waiting for our Shuttle Bus. When our bus was 10 minutes late I went forward to Reception to tell them that we would probably take a taxi. The young man said 'I'll phone them to find out how close they are' He found that they were 2 to 5 minutes away.
We were greatly impressed with the quality of the service that we received throughout our stay and above all the personable and personal way that it had been offered.

We spent one night at The Sebel Surry Hills this weekend using a package deal. For a great price we were able to stay in a Deluxe Room (King Size Bed and flip out sofa for the kids) which included carparking and breakfast for the four of us. The room was spacious, modern and clean. The pool and spa were lovely but if you have an issue with the smell of chlorine, I'd recommend a room NOT on Level 4 where the pool is located. Thankfully we weren't on that floor. The buffet breakfast was very nice and the staff pleasant. However, I must say that they were run off their feet in order to accomodate a full dining room for breakfast. I really hope the management puts on more staff for the sake of their very lovely and pleasant employees. While The Sebel is removed from places such as Darling Harbour and Sydney Tower Eye it is closeby Central Station. It cost us around $10 to catch the train to Sydney Tower Eye and our taxi fares to Darling Harbour and back were $11 and $14. While taxi fares can be expensive, if you compare this to paying more $ for accommodation right on Darling Harbour, you come out on top by staying at The Sebel. The only thing you are missing is the view. All up a very pleasant stay with wonderful staff who were also very helpful when we checked out and left an item there. The only gripe I have is that we had a very poor sleep due to the pillows. All of the pillows in the room were very high and as a result your neck was kinked the wrong way and we were very uncomfortable. It would be great to see pillows in various heights in the room, or alternatively, if you are on a driving holiday, just bring your own pillow!

We had two nights in Sydney, travelling with a baby. The staff were efficient and accommodating with sterilizing bottles, room service, anything we requested. The breakfast was one of the best I have enjoyed in Sydney. Reception staff were informative, friendly and service very fast.

I was very pleased with myself having booked this hotel. Service was excellent, Room was impeccible, very happy with it. Great location - close to Central station (yet not affected by noise); free city circle bus 100m walk.
I will definately choose to stay here again when next in Sydney

Stayed 4 nights and have only good things to say about the whole experience. Room and bathroom were nice and clean. Coffee and tea making facilities and fridge in room. Staff were friendly especially Ray who went out of his way to get train details for us so that we knew exactly what time we had to leave the hotel in order to get a train to Circular Quay for a New Years Eve cruise. He went above and beyond for us and it was greatly appreciated. Would definitely stay here again.

Dear Yvonne V

We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at The Sebel Surry Hills Sydney. It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback.

New Year's Eve is certainly a very busy time in Sydney so I am glad to hear that Ray was able to help provide information to help you make it to your cruise on time! I will be sure to pass on your comments to him and the rest of the team.

Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we hope your next visit will be as pleasant as the previous one.

Kind Regards

We booked a 2 night stay on a package deal that included entry to the Aquarium, Wildlife World, Tower Eye and Ocean World in Manly for 2 adults and 2 children, parking, breakfast and a day pass for the monorail and light rail. All this for $309 a night. The hotel was lovely and clean, the staff was very pleasant and overall I was quite impressed. Our room had a king size bed and a fold out for the kids but was really quite spacious. Sure some the furniture is showing signs of wear and tear but not to the point of being offensive. The bathroom was lovely and clean. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and they even provided colouring packs for the kids. I wouldn't say that the location is the best but it's about a 10 min walk to China Town and just around the corner from Central Station. There is also a stop for the free shuttle bus very close to the hotel. The pool was great for the kids too and they were very impressed with the under floor fish tank! Overall we had a very pleasant stay and I would rate the value for money as excellent. I would definitely return. One thing I would mention is that one of the days we used the spa, there was so much chlorine/chemicals in it that it was literally impossible to use it.
