Got this one off a Secret Deal/Mystery hotel site. 2 nights cost $495. First time staying here. Wanted 2 beds as was with my sis. Rooms very comfortably appointed with 2 king singles. Quiet. Clean light bathroom, big bath, generous room size. Good view onto the residential apartments next door so you could have a dorrie to see how the other half lives. Didn't really have anything to do with staff or food & beverage outlets so can't comment. Would stay here again as we like location down the Circular Quay end of town - close to train at Wynyard, ferries at the Quay and walking tracks around the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and Gardens.

Room Tip: 2316 looks west onto highrises

Most of the other reviews have got it. This is not a Five Star hotel. Maybe just scrapes in at Four Star. Location is great. The desk should automatically give you the WiFi code on check in so you do not need to return or phone to find out.

Room Tip: If you take a $150 Wotif mystery 5 star you probably should expect better. Wotif as well as the hote...

My husband and I stayed here on a Wotif mystery deal over the weekend of Oct 20-22nd. We had a great room, it was on a corner on Level 5 and very quiet. Check-in was very easy, the door staff were lovely and friendly, the highlight was when they offered me a free bottle of water after a morning run around the harbour, as I returned to the hotel. I would definitely stay here again, only a 5 min walk to shops in George/Pitt St and same to the Rocks and Circular Quay. There is a Lindt Cafe right next door which is also very handy!

We stayed at Amora for the second time recently.

The service as always was top notch with staff friendly and very helpful.
The location is very hard to beat being only a block or so from circular quay, the rock and George Street.

Last time we stayed I noted that the rooms were looking a little run down. Not so this time. The room was clean and impecably maintained.

Originally stayed here as a mystery hotel, now we always stay here when we need to spend the night in Sydney. Great location, central to everything. Rooms are comfortable and clean, the large deep bath is a definite positive. Staff are friendly and helpful, always happy to be of assistance.

So many things went wrong with my stay here. we got there just after 3 they checked us into a room that had not been cleaned yet. We had to wait almost and hour for another room, wich we then had to rush round trying to get ready for our dinner reservations because of this delay, and what really got to me is they didnt even offer us anything for the inconveined caused. The rooms are small and outdated. nothing in the rooms scream 5 stars ive seen better four stars.

Finally after getting ready we went to the valet to get our car and because the guy never gave us a ticket and was to buzy talking to other stagg we then had to wait another hour for managment to fix this and yet agian nothing but a sorry for the inconveince.

As we got a package that included breakfast we went to get our breakfast but because of the change in rooms from earlier they hadnt put us down for it even though we had already paid... yet agian we had to wait and after waiting 20 mins with no word we decided just to leave and have breakfast somewhere else.

honestly spend your money at the hilton where the breakfast is one of the best i have ever had and when a inconveince on there end has happened they actually go out of there way to make it up to you.. not worth the 5 stars.

Room Tip: Go to a real 5 star hotel not this one...

Here are the positives:
the guys who open the doors to the hotel are very nice and friendly!
the staff were very friendly and helpful and sooooo young! Holy cow, you'll feel old walking into this hotel!
the lobby is pretty
it's nice to hear the piano being played as you walk in at night
internet was fast
fantastic location!
quiet
the safe is big enough to fit 2 laptops
surfaces (furniture and bathroom) were clean to a good standard, but, see below...

Here are the negatives:
the room is old, dated, unclean (It's superficially clean - I'm not saying the cleaner's haven't done their job, they have; it's more that the room is so outdated, there's a lot of in-ground grime that really only a re-decorate would get rid of)
mould in bathroom
carpet stained, dirty, dusty, worn
bed is uncomfortable, too soft, saggy, pillows stunk
very stuffy - even with the a/c on - you can't open windows
tv is in a very weird place...
the guest book suggests "drinking the still water provided" over the tap water... Beware, that the still water provided is $6 a pop...!
the card system to get the elevator to go up and down is just plain weird

We booked on Wotif as a mystery hotel deal, so, really, our own problem for taking the risk. But for the 5 star rating the hotel was given, we were a little befuddled by the state of our room. Perhaps four of the five stars were taking the night off? Perhaps the rating was given by dust mites?

Five stars this hotel is not. Well, perhaps other rooms in the hotel are - but our room certainly was not.

It needs to focus on:
- fitting fresh curtains
- replacing the carpet
- reupholstering the chairs, or buying new chairs
- fixing the plugs (unless you did that before vaccuming, then skip this step and go straight to the next point)
- fixing the shower door so it doesn't sound like it's bursting off the hinge every time it's opened or closed
- fixing the light switches so the lights turn "on" and "off" on demand (I think this beautiful piece of technology appeared in the 1940s?)
- put up signs to explain to guests how to use the complicated "hotel card / lift" system
- new mattresses and pillows
- new linen
- new towels

We live in Europe and we understand Australia is a very expensive country. But, for what we paid here in this hotel, we could have bought the west wing of Versailles.

Room Tip: Try booking direct through hotel rather than Wotif. It seems a repeated mistake by Tripadvisor revie...
