“Weekend stay in the city”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

Nice hotel in great location, just a short distance to Circular Quay. Staff were very attentive and helpful without being intrusive. This was listed as a 5-star hotel, and although things were nice they were a bit worn out and needed replacing or updating. I definitely would not class this as 5 stay, far from it.

Room Tip: A corner room provides a better outlook and the rooms seemed nicer.

Stayed here over the Easter long weekend. Was able to access our room Earlier than expected which was very convenient. The check in staff were very friendly and extremely efficient. The room was spotless. The bathroom appeared to be quite new. Location of the TV in the cupboard on the side to the bed was very awkward and difficult to watch while laying in bed. We booked this hotel as a mystery hotel online and it was great value for a peak holiday time. Would stay here again if prices were similar. Not a five star hotel in terms of rating - would be more a three and half to four star. A comfortable stay.

The only good department in the whole building was housekeeping. Arrived to check in and staff were unfriendly and not very efficient with the check in process. The room service food was oily and bacon over cooked. Housekeeping were very helpful and friendly in the lifts. This hotel needs to be re rated. Its a fraud. Lobby is pretty.

This is a serious case of false advertising as it is no where near five star or even four star for that matter. Our room had stained carpet, torn blinds and badly chipped paint. Bathroom was decent enough but still mouldy in places. Breakfast buffet was not worth the money with food constantly running out and a 15 min wait for glasses for self serving juice. We won't be staying there again and would not recommend it!

Booked the Amora Jamison Hotel via Expedia as a "surprise special offer" where you don't know where you are staying until after have paid. When we saw the reviews after booking it did not look good with some mixed reviews especially around check in.

The price was certainly lower than all the other 5 star hotels however to suggest this is 5 star is very misleading, closer to 3.5 stars would be more accurate. .

Anyway I had been staying at another hotel for work and was checking in for a 4 day holiday with my partner who was flying in to Sydney around 11am. So I went to check in around 10:30 and had no problems and even got upgraded to a Deluxe Corner Suite on level 26 and we did have a nice view to the south over the CBD and Sydney Tower. A nice enough room but pretty basic and very tired. The carpet was worn and probably original from maybe 15/20 years ago and holes in the window blinds. The bed made a noise every time you moved around. A nice large bathroom with separate bathtub and great view to the west. I fixed the leaky shower rose so that was good.

The position was very handy to Circular Quay and also not that far to walk to Pitt Street Mall and Darling Harbour so a positive.

Every staff member we dealt with was friendly and helpful so that was also good. We had room service for dinner one night and that was also nice enough.

Room Tip: A room as high as possible with a view to the north and/or east would be a good idea.

I stayed here with my (11 y.o) daughter for three nights at the beginning of a two-week tour of Oz. Overall the hotel was fine and met our needs. We had a Club room near the top, which means you get free wifi (worth a good £20) and access to the Club Lounge for the inclusive breakfast. This was definitely worth paying the extra for. The Club Lounge breakfast was excellent and the service first class. The room itself was clean and adequate. We had a corner room but it was so close to the office blocks next door we could almost read what was on the computer screens! You need the blinds down during office hours that's for sure! Oh, and the pool was great.

Room Tip: If you can, go for a Club room at the top for the inclusive extras.

Stayed at the Amoria over the Easter longweekend. The location of the hotel is fantastic, being right in the heart of it all, and easy walking distance to pretty much everything. The service upon arrival is friendly, helpful, and efficient (which after reading the below reviews I was apprehensive about - but it's totally fine). The room itself on the 33rd floor - stunning and spacious bathroom. The main room is simple with the king size bed, desk, and bedside tables, but that's pretty much it (TV is hidden in the wardrobe, which is weird). Pretty comfortable bed - not amazing but still very comfortable. Had an amazing view out over the city down to Darling Harbour and you've got the ability to sit in the window sill and take in the city. That was gorgeous. Bad note: The concierge was pretty clueless about Sydney. We learnt more from five minutes on Broadsheet than any tips from him. Overall a good hotel. Four star and good rates if you get onto secretdeal on lastminute.com
