The location are simply amazing. The Central Station is just like 'turn left at the entrance and walk straight, you will see it after 5 mins walk'. Seriously if you look for luxury , this property aint get you anything except for some craziness. The staff are nice and cool . The roommates will gets you crazy with alcohol and parties. Worth to stay. My first experience of Sydney given to them and i always tell myself i will rather get wasted again in Nomad the next trip to AUS

Room Tip: 4 bed will be better as big group can mess you up

The exterior of the building was dodgy looking, reception looked nice enough though, so was relieved. Then we got to our 'room'... We'd booked a double ensuite room. First thing we noticed when we went in was that we actually had some sort of bunkbed with a double on the bottom and a bunk on the top, which meant that you couldn't sit up in bed to read or anything like that. Then the tiny window in the corner of the bedroom was covered by a louvered grate type thing, it seemed very noisy outside and when we went to see how to close it, we discovered there wasn't any glass in the window. Fantastic.

Next was the alleged en-suite. There was only one other door in our bedroom, and that turned out to be the wardrobe. At this stage I wouldn't have been shocked to discover that we were, in fact, expected to use the wardrobe as a place to expel bodily waste, but we thought we'd check at reception in case (we hoped) we'd been given the wrong room. No such luck. We were told that the door across the corridor from our room was our bathroom (???) I had noticed this door on the way to the room, and had assumed it was a janitor's supply closet or something (of course this couldn't have been the case, because I doubt that place has been cleaned since it opened). It had a slatted louvered door, but in keeping with the theme of general shoddiness of the place, it had been hung back to front, so that you could see straight in to the bathroom. This meant that every time one of us needed to go to the toilet, we'd have to bring a towel and hang it over the door so passers by wouldn't get an eyeful of us on the loo.

Things continued on this trend when we went to bed that evening and discovered a white crusty substance on the sheets. Lovely. I shudder to think what else was lurking in the room that we couldn't see. We had booked in to stay for a week, but after that first night we couldn't bear the thoughts of spending another minute there so we checked out and found another hostel close by which had the luxury of a toilet door that couldn't be seen through, and bed sheets that weren't encrusted with other people's dried bodily fluids.

Room Tip: "Add a tip to help travellers choose a good room." Walk back out the front door and choose...

Good location with good cafes, restaurants and bars nearby as well as central station. However not up there with the best hostels I've stayed in - firstly one of the lifts was left broken meaning that everyone in the whole hostel (12 floors worth of rooms) was using one lift - usually meant a five minute wait (minimum) just for the lift. Secondly, you had to pay for wifi - but werent told at the time that the coverage is poor in the end rooms and you'd have to go into the corridor everyday to use it. Also very unreliable and spent a large amount of time at reception sorting it out! Had a 4 bed room which was ok for the price - no ladders to get up to top bunk though which made it a daily struggle! Staff were generally pleasant until you had a problem, then you felt like it was a huge chore for them trying to sort it for you. Generally though the events they organised were good and the staff tried to get everyone involved - some good perks such as free club entries.

Hi There,

Thanks so much for leaving a review.

We appreciate all customer feedback and have been following up on your comments.

We understand that the lifts here at Westend can be frustrating, and this is something that we have been working on for quite some time. With a high turnover of customers coming in and out of the lifts , the two lifts do get quite the work out from time time to time. We have been looking into new solutions to resolves this long term.

Your feedback on the WIFI throughout the hostel has been passed onto the Internet/WIFI provider who will be coming back to us shortly.

As you can imagine I was more than disappointed to read your feedback on our staff. Our staff are key to the business, and we focus heavily on customer service. The comments that you have raised have been addressed with our staff, who were also devastated to hear this feedback.

We were stoked to hear your feedback on out entertainment schedule. We believe that this is a great way for fellow travelers to make new friends and share new experiences.

We do hope that you will come back to Westend in the future so see all of the improvements that we have made

Kind regards

Alex

Nomads are usually brilliant, but this place is a joke. Where do I start...
The building itself looks like it's about to fall down, the entrance smells of urine, the 'lift' takes 10-15 mins to get to where you want as it's incredibly slow and tired… not helpful if you're on the 12th floor of this jenga-style building…
The kitchen is tiny for the amount of people trying to use it, no glasses/cups at any point during our stay the response was always 'nah they're out'… the fridges aren't cold, and in addition our stuff was stolen from there despite having a label etc.
The rooms are small dank and old, with the bed sheets stained with white splashes… I'll let you do your own deductions… the window is horrifically stained, the shower is weak and the taps are too. Overall a pretty grim place only helped by good staff.
Just a bad place run well. I would urge anyone not to stay here unless you don't care about anything previously mentioned. We booked for three nights and couldn't wait to leave after 1…

I had bed bugs two out of two nights and had to spend both days doing laundry where I should have been exploring the city. The laundry machine broke half of my clothes and I found a dead rat in the basement. It needed a serious cleaning and they weren't really good at dealing with the bed bugs problem so it just moved from room to room. The kitchen was really dirty too and my shoes stuck to the floor. Only one single elevator but 13 floors so u ended up spending most of your day waiting for the elevator. Only thing that was positive was a friendly staff and the central location and the fact that they gave me my money back. I would definitely rather recommend staying at Wake Up which is just up the road; a much cleaner and nicer place - a little more expensive but definitely worth it!

At very first opinion, this hostel is awful.
There is a strong stench coming from the lobby, that after the first day I though would have gone away but it seemed to just get worse.
There are 2 lifts, though for the 6 nights I was there only 1 was working, a lot of waiting time just to get up and down.
The staff seemed friendly and helpful enough.

We chose this Hostel for a couple of days in Sydney and we booked a double room with private toilet. We usually travel sleeping in Hostels but we never had such a bad experience. The room was quite wide and close to the city centre, stop. These are the only good things. The room was really really dirty, with fitted carped, with no opening windows or air conditioning, no working plugs and a lot of beetles! 14 floors with just one working lift. It was really lauded. The common dining room was well equipped and clean.
If you want a cheap but still acceptable place to stay, don't go there!!!!
