So long as you know what to expect, this is a suitable choice for exploring Potts Point and Kings Cross. My upper room was quiet and adequately equipped with a shared bathroom and laundry a few steps away.
Staff were cheerful, efficient and helpful, even recharging my mobile phone for me.
There are plenty of good eateries nearby - try Shogun (Japanese) around the corner - and a bus stop within 50 metres (McLeay Street) takes you to Central or Town Hall: a better option than the train if you have luggage. A Woolies and a NAB are just around the corner.

Stayed here with a large group of friends during Vivid in early June 2013. Between us we had 6/7 rooms. I had a very comfy king bed, nice hot shower. A great place for the price. It was clean and the staff were very helpful. Loved the location for food and coffee as there were lots of places nearby. A bit of a walk from central Sydney. Our group did the journey once walking then used trains, buses and cabs after that.
Would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Ladies were wonderful when I left my purse behind ( fell between the seats when i was rearranging...

I stayed here with my boyfriend for the weekend when he was visiting me in Sydney. We chose it because it was in a good location and it was reasonably priced (well more so than the other overpriced hotels in Sydney). When we arrived the receptionist was polite enough (I wouldn’t say she was overly friendly) and checked us in with no problem. Was a little shocked by the $100 room key deposit she took (well swiped on the card) which I thought was a little excessive. I understand it costs them money to change the locks if you lose the key but that’s something you have to accept when having a hotel as a business, or just change the system to a swipe card one (I appreciate these are probably rather costly though).

The building itself was nice, the corridors has been newly painted it seemed and the decoration was nice. The room was nice, a little small, but had everything you needed including a large bed, flat screen TV, bathroom, fridge and sink. The bed was comfy, it was quiet in the room at night and I didn’t see any other guests while we were there.

Would definitely stay again.

We chose Maisonette primarily for its location and affordability. Our first room (31) had water damage in the ceiling and smelled very strongly of mould. We arrived after hours and went straight to sleep. Unfortunately the odour was overpowering, caused a poor night's sleep and triggered allergies. We were moved to another room (26) the following morning without any hassle. Rooms are small but functional. King size beds are very comfortable. Building feels a little tired but gets a lot of light on the street side.
The location is ideal for inner city walking, eating, shopping etc. though inside it feels like a motel. Rooms were clean enough but office hours can feel limited if you are used to 24hr staff.

A group of 9 mums stayed in 9 rooms, I was in room 37 on the 3rd floor with a view of the city. I would think that is the only room with a city view, the front rooms had it of challis ave.
And the others of the wall of the house next door, but it is an old area and that is to be expected.

Rooms were simple and all you need. Kitchen sink, fridge, wardrobe, large comfy king bed, shower, loo and basin,
Very very thick walls so NO noise can be heard above or beside you, love that!
Great cafes next door and over the road that we breakfasted at.
Took a walk to ferry, ( 25 mins) a bus to hotel from quay ( 20 mins) and central, ( 25 mins) walked to kings cross station, ( 10 mins) and also took a cab one night ( $21 from darling harbour) 15 mins
The rate is the big bonus here.
$100 average a night over a weekend, some nights were less, Saturday a bit more, we stayed 3 .
Clean, tidy, Sunny, suited our needs.

Room Tip: No air con, just a fan. Ok in June, might not be in January. Not very toddler friendly due to stairs...

The Hotel is located in a good location close to restaurants, cafe's and a supermarket. The Hotel is an older building, but it was neat and clean. The room was not quite like the pictures on the website so we were a little disappointed, however there were no rats or cockroaches nor did the room smell as per other reviews. The bathroom was small and there was a lack of ventilation when using the shower, but that was not a major issue. There are no lifts, so be prepared to walk up stairs. The staff at the Hotel were excellent, very nice and helpful. We would stay again for a short stay trip.

Stayed 3 nights at this hotel and found it to be reasonably priced and provided adequate facilities. We had a room for 3 persons, the room was clean and tidy with kettle etc, microwave, tv.(Although we never used any of them, too busy)
It is ideally located and approx 20/30 min walk through the beautiful Botanic Gardens down to Sydney Harbour. A taxi is approx $20 after 6pm as the gardens close. The staff are very helpful and will book taxi and buses if required. The hotel is also a 5 min walk from the "red light" area in Kings Cross as we found out one night! Lets just say it was an experience walking through, and you can see some sights!! However , despite this the whole area is safe and we experienced no hassle.
In summary i would recommend this hotel if you just want somewhere to rest your head, there is a couple of cafe next door which serve food all day.

Negative!
Paying for WIFI, when most cafe/bars are free
