“Well Worth Staying”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

I must say I am very happy with my room at the Vulcan, I am in 308 it's perfect, comfy bed, pillows, quiet, I have a wonderful spa which I found hard to get out of as I was so relaxed, perfect after a very early start a flight and a long day in a conference. Easy walking distance to Central Shopping centre with Woolies and fast food take away. I will review the breakfast in the morning. the building is heritage and has been well maintained and has old world charm. If you book directly with the Vulcan you get free wifi, If you book in advance you get an early bird special, I am here for 2 nights and only paid $253, bargain.

Room Tip: 3rd floor, room 308 is quiet, double windows make a difference. Good black blinds help keep it dark...

As a regular visitor to Sydney and a regular at the Vulcan I find satying there is like staying with a good friend and not the sterile enviroment of most large hotels. It is a no fuss well located hotel with lots of charm. The staff are friendly and as a regular treat you as such.

Room Tip: Ask for an inner room no city noise.

We've stayed several times at the Vulcan as it ticks all the boxes for a young family or for a couple. With kids we had a great space that was very comfortable for us all. As a couple we were upgraded and the room was quiet and well set out.
This is a great location and the breakfast downstairs is great! The staff are really helpful and parking is very very reasonable. Cool space++

They hotel is great value for money. The location is close to Darling Harbour and the public transport systems of Sydney. Also: sydney fish market, Glebe, Dog track. Modern interior - clean, tidy and well appointed. I based myself for 7 days in this hotel and saw all of Sydney. From Darling Harbour, to the farmers markets, Opera house, Manly, Glebe restaurants. Walked everywhere and used the great Sydney public transport from metro rail to trains, buses and ferries.

I liked that the place was set in a heritage building and provided a sort of old-world charm. We got the superior double room. It was large enough to fit in the cot for a third sleeper. Modernly appointed rooms were basic, a little dusty and a little dark but suitably comfortable nonetheless.

Drove up from Melbourne in the evening and as we approached Sydney, got stuck in a traffic jam for a good two hours (at midnight, no less) due to extensive road works. The staff were helpful and cheerful even though we checked in at an ungodly hour. The location was great as it was a short walking distance to the harbor and Chinatown.

Recommended, if you're not super fussy about details.

Room Tip: We liked the room that we got, with windows opening up into the courtyard.

I stay at the Vulcan several times a year and each time I notice something new and improved. The staff are friendly and personable. Rooms are very clean and comfortable - including the smaller rooms - complete with TV, mini bar and air conditioning.
It is very closely situated to Broadway - where you have a great range of restaurants and cafes. The hotel has plenty of information about what's on in Sydney and how to get around.
Breakfast (sampled once because I always get up too late or leave too early) is beautifully prepared with good coffee.
The owners take pride in their hotel and strive to please.
I have stayed in hotels around the world and this is a lovely boutique hotel.

Some places get better over the years and some start out ok and then gradually, well, they don't exactly deteriorate they just get a bit jaded. Neither is the case with the Vulcan Hotel. It continues to be spotless, excellent efficient friendly owners and service. We have seen the same people cleaning for years, and Yves in the café has been there for years too - that has to say something positive about the management in our view. It feels pleasant to go back!

The position is brilliant, we are big walkers and that means we can walk to Surry Hills, Glebe and the city easy peasy. Carole is interested in our experience, always helpful with any enquiries and good fun to boot! Really and truly why wouldn't you stay here when you visit Sydney great service and excellent value. Do yourself a favour and see for yourself.

Thank you.

Room Tip: ask for room away from the busy road.
