Went there in early August. Nice seating in little cubicles. Ordering using the ipad menu with photos of each dish. Must try the waygu beef sukiyaki for $18.80; comes with vegetables, mushrooms, tofu. Lots of varieties to choose from.

Food is great and service is excellent, however the pad for ordering seems to be dated - you have to press very hard and wait for a while to go into the next screen.

This is a little different in that your order is taken via a computer on your table., you select your dish via pictures and dishes names and you push the order button. We enjoyed our meal and tried a variety of dishes i(all very tasty). Our favourite was the sukiyaki soup which was delicious and you get to make it yourself to your taste. We didn't see the karaoke so cannot comment but found the staff to be really helpful especially if you tell them it's your first visit. Its a great way to add a bit of novelty to ordering your meal but be careful as it can get expensive if you don't monitor what you are ordering. Staff however kept a good eye on us and we had a great time. Definitely going back to this one.

When you walk down the stairs from George Street, Mizura at first appears as a bit of a labyrinth, the quite large space chopped up into booths; dark tones prevail. And its linked via a bit of a passageway to a karaoke bar that also has its own stairs up to George St. So, an interesting start. We were there for the food; the karaoke will have to wait for another time.
Ordering food and drinks is via a touchscreen. Our booth's touchscreen was a little on the thick-skinned side, as each time we wanted to order something we had to give it a very solid tap to make it take notice.
Good array of cocktails, beers and wines, which you can order by the glass. No problems there.
The dinner menu seemed to have plenty of options too but not all them had appeal. They do all the regulars like miso, sushi, sashimi and nigiri and then quite a few more unusual offerings. My favourites among these were the lotus root chips, the seared kingfish sushi and the spectacular 'volcano-stack' of chilli-flavoured tempura.
I can't help but compare Mizuya with the Wagaya Japanese tapas bar in Newtown, which also features booths and touchscreens, and which also happens to be a personal favourite. On the basis of one visit to Mizuya and three to Wagaya, on virtually all counts I rank Wagaya ahead: the food, the funkiness factor/atmosphere, service and value for money.Maybe the drinks menu at Mizuya is a nose ahead. Still, Mizuya is worth a visit.

I first tested the food by eating here on a different day, before heading here for dinner and karaoke on my birthday. The food is ok, but there are better places to eat japanese in sydney, so unlless you are aiming for karaoke, i would probably eat elsewhere. service isn't that friendly, but i guess that can be expected in a place which mostly serves drunken people singing karaoke on the weekends. all in all, not a bad experience but also not an amazing one!
