A popular destination for coach trips (and Sydney's suicide destination of choice), Watson's bay can take a bit of patience to find the best bit. The lighthouse is pretty, but if you persevere and head into the heart of the town, you'll find good fish and chips and a nice spot for sun down - those with really good eyesight will be able to see the harbour bridge as the sun sets. Watsons Bay is a gorgeous 20 minute ferry ride from Circular Quay traveling through scenic Sydney Harbour, past Cockatoo Island and the Sea Planes off Rose Bay. The Bay is great for dipping your feet in and a chance for the kids to build castles. No waves as it's on the bay. For those with very little ones there is a lovely big grassy area which is great for kicking a ball or there is an even better fully fenced large playground area complete with swings, slides and climbing frames. For those wanting more scenery, you can venture up to the gap for a fantastic view of the open sea. If you visit on a weekend you might be lucky enough to watch a wedding ceremony at Dunbar House. We normally eat the pricey but delicious fish and chips right near the wharf, but Watsons Bay Hotel is right next door if you want a more sit down meal. A lovely day out.

Watsons Bay is the perfect destination for anyone seeking the authentic Sydney experience. Visit Watsons Bay and take a stroll along the picturesque coastline, or eat fish at seafood restaurants, or soak up the sun at Lady Bay.

I was planning on doing a harbour cruise but as we had all area transport passes we decided to take the ferry across to Watsons Bay and didn't really have any expectations of what we would find there. The views of the city and harbour are fantastic from the ferry so the journey itself fulfilled my requirements. But Watsons Bay is a lovely little place, feels a bit like going back in time. We had a walk around the village, which didn't take long, finishing with the climb up to the cliffs to see the wild ocean on the other side. The views are breathtaking and it's well worth a visit. You get the views back towards Sydney as well and can just about see the city.

We ended up getting fish and chips from the takeaway and eating them in the park area as the weather was lovely. But there is a covered area for eating as well, with a bar and toilet facilities.

Highly recommended for a few hours away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The landscape is very cool, but diving/snorkeling here is even better! Saw a huge bull ray, cuttlefishes, octopuses, eels, many different fishes...
