Its a fair distance between the Circular Quay central area to the Opera House, it's quite nice to take the time to walk to the Botanics Garden and have a walk around. We went there in between time before our show starts in the evening, quite a nice view and a few attractions to notice in the Botanics Garden.

One thing to note is the gate for the garden closes quite early though, they shuts off at around 5.30pm, so do go there a little earlier, I think once you are in, you are able to stay in there a little after the gate closing time, the exit gate should be open all the time, just that the gate to enter has a time limit (we didn't try though, so.. no guarantee =P, well we didn't see any staff of management the whole time there)

We were lucky enough to be able to see Mandy Patinkin and Nathan Gunn perform in the Opera House. What a marvelous venue (and a great performance).

One can witness grandeur in building and botanic architecture in 1 hour of a stroll. Where else in the world could one enjoy the splendor of Sydney harbor together with brilliant human creativity?

We managed to visit the Opera House late afternoon and booked the last tour at 5 pm. While waiting for that tour, we went over to the Botanic Gardens, and were fortunate to catch the last tram at 4.30pm. It was a wonderful value for money ride, as given the short time we have before the opera house tour started, we managed to have a very comfortable ride through the beautiful grounds of Botanic Gardens, without working up a sweat. Having three children with us means we would not be able to walk long or far, so the tram was just nice for us, to savour the cool wind, as well as to enjoy the scenic landscape of both the gardens as well as the harbour area. My children absoulutely loved it. I would strongly recommend the tram ride for families with young children. If time allows, you can always get off at various stops to enjoy the garden. Last tram leaves at 4.30 though. For us, it was a great two in one fun, given that we only reached the area at 4.10pm. After the tram, we were just in time to go for our tour at the Opera House, which itself is a architectural beauty.

The views of the bridge and opera house on this walk are well worth it. The botanic gardens are also well worth a visit.
