The Botanic gardens are a great place to visit to get away from the hustle bustle of the city. Allow plenty of time and take it easy as you meander around the garden paths. If you are a plantsman you will enjoy the wide variety of flora on display. The views over the harbour are fantastic. On a hot day take plenty of liquid. There are a few cafes for refreshments. Arachnophobic? There are some pretty big spiders in the park which weave their webs in the trees and sit in the middle enjoying the reaction they get from unwary visitors. These boys are big (compared to our British house guys) but they are located in very specific locations. This is not a zoo, these are the locals.

A lovely walk, spoilt a touch currently by the amount of construction work going on. Guess the timing of my visit was unlucky

The walk from the Opera house to the Botanic Gardens is quite nice and peaceful, leading you along the water. The gardens are very beautiful and a perfect place for jogging. It's a nice stroll in a big city, showing you another side of Sydney apart from the sky scrapers.

This is our 7th trip to NSW. We always include a few days in Sydney and always walk through Hyde Park and the Domain to The Botanic Gardens. There are so many different paths to take an things to see. The flora and fauna are always different and there is always something new to see. We then end up at the Opera House which is spectacular. Always a pleasure just to be there. The guided tour is very worthwhile and most interesting.

The new lift between Circular Quay and the walkway to the botanic gardens is great for those with limited mobility, and leads to an entrance close to Government House. The Government House architecture and surrounding gardens is a must to check out, and includes some of the best views of the bay. Government House gardens close before 4 pm, though, and the cops on the beat don't appreciate people stalling, so try to get there early! The botanic gardens includes a range of themed gardens, or fantastic greens for picnics etc.
