Actually, we went backwards, from the Botanic Gardens to the Opera House. We followed the signs and still got lost, ending up in the gardens of the Government House and unable to get over the fence to the proper walkway, where we could see everyone else, without going back to the entrance. We did that and were able to view the Opera House with the Harbour Bridge in the background. A lovely sight. We had seen it before from the other side so this view was new.

After visiting the Opera House and taking the obligatory photos of the exterior of this wonderful iconic & architectural masterpiece with the wonderful backdrop of Sydney Harbour, have a wander inside then continue back outside and onto the Botanic Gardens. To stroll along the harbour foreshore and then through the gardens is very peaceful and there are a wonderful array of plant species and trees etc for those interested but for others just stopping at one of the cafes or kiosks to take in the scenery and views is a very peaceful experience considering you are such a short distance from the city centre. It does look much better on a sunny day of course!

Some more maps on the walk might have been helpful. We ended up meandering a bit and probably missed some of the highlights of the garden because we weren't quite sure where we were going. The gardens are certainly in a lovely location right by the CBD

Sydney Opera House is so internationalized that everybody goes there. If you want a good picture, go early when there's not too many people. You could even book a tour at 7am and enjoy this place relatively 'alone'.

This light and music festival colorfully illuminates Sydney's iconic buildings near Circular Quay, the Opera House, and Martins' Place. No matter how tired you may be towards the end of the day, do bask in the glow of this light show - easy to enjoy + it's free, outdoors, good for all groups, wholesome, lighthearted, and gives a sense of awe and community. You'll sense why hundreds of thousands of people enjoy this annual festival. Worth going out of your way to attend.
