Owner description: Located by the Royal Botanic Gardens, the bench known as Mrs. Macquarie's Chair was carved out of sandstone in the early 1800s for Govenor Lachlan Macquarie's wife, Elizabeth. It became her favorite spot to look upon the harbour and serves that same purpose today for visitors who take a moment to rest there.

“View makes it worth the trip.”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

My favorite pictures of the Opera House and Bridge came from this attraction. We went in the early morning before it was really crowded and took our pictures. Mrs. Macquarie's chair and the story benind he chair is great, but the views are what makes it a must do in Sydney.

“Make your own postcard”

The view of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge are unrivalled. The walk through the gardens is also a great experience. From whatever angle, you will get amazing photos. A must do!

well, as tourist, I marked this spot as must visit. must have my own adventure and pictures of those monuments.
one hint - try to visit the place in the first half of the day while the sun is in good position for snapshots.

“Place for Photographers”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

As such there is nothing much to do here, but it is a must visit place if you are looking for some stunning pictures of Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

You can visit here both at night and day, both ways you will have stunning pictures of 2 iconic buildings of Sydney.

Either you can take a taxi to reach here or can walk upto this place. However, if it is daytime, you can check out the Botanical Gardens and get out of the far end gate and take road to Mrs Macquarie's Chair. If you are going there at night, I would recommend a taxi as the walk can be tiring as Botanical Garden closes at night and you will have come around it. Moreover a walk can be intimidating as there would not be many people around and it will be quite dark on streets. Keep the taxi phone number handy to call another one while returning. :)

“The view makes it.”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

The walk thru the Royal Botanical Gardens and the view make this something. The chair is no great shakes. Sort of an "I was here" place to take a photo. As your facing the chair, the rock formations to its left are much more interesting. Of course the view is great/ Get your iconic image of the opera house and the harbor bridge from right near here.
