Owner description: This national park is 25 km north of Sydney and accessible by car, rail and boat. Located at the southern end of the Hawkesbury River, Ku-ring-gai boasts many walking and hiking trails, scenic picnic spots and a bit of Aborginal history in rock carvings throughout the park.

On the edge of some of Sydney's most prestigious northern suburbs, so easily accessed, though you need a car. Great walking tracks, virgin bush, wildlife for the observant; horse riding trails and stables in the area. A nice bush experience close to town.

Sydney is ringed by parks land that the casual visitor would never see. It is actually a great way to get out and walk off your jet lag. If you are visiting Sydney and enjoy the outdoors, stretch your travel legs in one of these near in parks less traveled than the Blue Mountains hordes. We went on loop walks from Bobbin Head in the west park and from West Head in the eastern section. Both are quite unique with different aspects of the mangrove water ways (Warrimoo track to the Sphinx and back via the Bobbin Head track) vs. coastal cliffs descent to beach (Resolute Beach Track). We encountered a meter long goanna lizard and a wallaby along with loads of birds.

If you want to explore more than a day trip might manage, sparse, but clean accommodations exist at the nearby Mt. Kuring Gai Motel at 705 Pacific Hwy.
