This hotel is more a prision than a hotel. The rooms are really bad, dirty sheets. The comunitary rest room is disgusting. Very noisy rooms the guest didn´t let rest you, nobody respect silence after 00 a.m.
The breakfast is poor, just sandwich bread, dust cafewitout tasting.
The street and the district is very bad plenty drunk people day and night
We just stayed here because was Holidays and all hotels were full

I had high hopes when I obtained quite friendly and helpful directions to the "hotel". Upon arriving, my confidence that this was a somewhat legitimate establishment was shattered. They have certainly invested large amounts of money into security (differently coded gates, digital door locks), but I feel it would have been better spent on 'luxuries' such as reducing the gap between the doors in the public bathroom, providing blankets, and laundering the sheets between use. In addition, the idea that the security systems allow the creepy receptionist to watch your comings and goings was unnerving to say the least. They have a lot to learn about running a dodgy hostel, let alone a decent hotel. Tge pictures they provide of the rooms are just dead wrong, the rooms barely fit the bed! Go somewhere else, theres plenty of fine establishments on the same street that would be better than this $#!thole, including a cardboard box. I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy the task of spending the night here.

Thank god I was only staying here 1 night. If felt like a high security jail with all the barred gates & windows. If I had not stayed in this area previously I would have been very worried!! Girl on reception friendy & helpful. No lift so had to drag all my luggage myself & negoiate the security gates aswell. Room basic & sparse. After settling in I realised the bed was wet, the previous occupant had wet the bed & the cleaner has just put clean bedding on top!!! My room was changed straight away, & the receptionist was very appologetic, but the place did not feel clean or comfortable. The overall impression was shabby & dirty. Outside I noticed there was a For Sale sign, so maybe the new owners will improve the place.

do not stay here, we booked this as an alternative to hostels as we had previously been staying in hostels and wanted to stay in a hotel..... this is 10000 times worse than any hostel i have ever stayed in. the only good thing about this place is the security it makes you feel like your staying in a jail the rooms are disgusting and smelly, the fridge was covered in what look like poo all over it there were bugs flying everywhere the sheets were dirty i had sleep with a towel on me the rooms are hot and smelly i defiantly do not recommend staying here you'd be better of staying at a hostel and for the price of this place and what you get for your money is an absolute joke! you also have to share dirty dirty toilets and showers bottom line DO NOT STAY HERE!! I WOULD HAVE RATHER OF BEEN CAMPING...

Room Tip: just don't stay here......

If you wanted a backpacker hotel, well this is one, I suppose.
Let's start with the positives.
1. Clean linen
2. Secure - a good thing in a dodgy area with some strange life forms after dark
3. Close to city by bus
4. friendly staff
that's about it. Condition of the building is abysmal: whoever owns it (and must be making a lot of money out of it) should be forced to live there for a month. Communal toilets and showers are functioning, but you wouldn't want to spend long in them. They are however, well cleaned each morning: just be careful later in the day.
Like other reviewers, I think you can do better than this.

The Highfield hotel is not as bad as some of the reviews here want you to believe. At least it is safe and clean during my visit . But what else do you need when in a city like Sydney ?. But you can find cheaper places in the same street with better quality.

The accommodation is old and just has the basic amenities. Dirty stairways are infested with dead bugs. Heater is almost non existent during winter. The only positives are the excellent location and basic breakfast.
