“Quite OK for the price and location”
Reviewed 4 May 2010

Clean hotel, safe, nice decor, quiet and central location. Don't expect an outlook from your window. For the price I thought it was good and would stay again. Very central and handy location. There is a Harris Farm Markets just across the road to stock up with pre made salads, fruit and breads. Like a previous review I think it would of been nice to know beforehand that the rooms would not be serviced during the stay. Staff were pleasant.

Thanks for your comments.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. We service the rooms every second day, so it would depend if you were staying longer than 2 nights whether you got a room service or not. If you were staying for longer than 2 nights and for some reason your room was missed, I sincerely apologise.

Thank you again for your comments. We look forward to seeing you again someday soon.

Great value for money right in the heart of Kings Cross. Having read other reviews we were a bit dubious, but on arrival a pleasant surprise. Our ensuite room was adequate in size and clean Remembering this is a BUDGET hotel in the heart of the second most expensive city in the world. we did not expect a swimming pool, room service, a gym or clean linen every day but did get clean towels. One reviewer criticised the lack of carpets - it has polished floor boards! The staff were very helpful . we think we got more than we paid for so went back for a second stay after travelling around Oz before flying home.

Left early. Only positive was the tiny room was clean. No air con , window looked into kitchens etc so could not open blind. Very stuffy. Bathroom not finished, nails and bare wood. Could see light through shpoer ceiling. Altogether a poor experience.

We are always unhappy to hear of a guest who did not enjoy their stay at Springfield Lodge, and this case is not an exception.

At Springfield Lodge have a number of different room types such as Double, Double Premiums and even Kings, which mostly represent different sizes of the beds and the rooms themselves. In this case our larger rooms might have been booked out or unavailable for some reason, which is why a smaller room type such as a Double or even a Single might have been your only choice. In response to your feedback we have had a photographer visit the hotel and take new images of the smaller room types to hopefully show the size of the room more clearly. We thank you for bringing this to our attention and are glad we can continually improve the Springfield Lodge experience from your feedback.

We always recommend that guests who prefer a bit more space, book our larger more spacious rooms such as the Double Premiums or King Rooms. We are apologetic if these rooms were not available at the time of your booking.

Pros:
Very close to Kings Cross Train Station
Cafe downstairs
Not very loud for being 1 street off of the "red light" district of Kings Cross
Room was clean, with a pleasant decor
Mini fridge in room (not stocked)
Community Kitchen (didn't use)

Cons:
Our window opened to a courtyard, looking right into other rooms. I could hear another guest sneeze!
No air con, would be especially bad in the peak of summer. We did have a ceiling fan.
Front desk is not 24hr. They lock the front door at 11pm
Stayed for 2 nights. Our room was not serviced. Didn't have prior notice of this.
Room was fairly small, but adequate enough for 2

Over all, our stay was okay. The weather was mild so our room didn't get hot. It was amazing how quiet the hotel was for being SO close to the main strip of Kings Cross. It definitely felt fairly safe as well.

Depending on how much money you want to spend, this place could be okay. The kitchen is handy if staying for more than a few days. My friends got a deal for Darling Harbor area for $30 more than what we paid. We were only in our room to sleep, so in that respect it was fine. Fairly no frills though.

One of Springfield Lodge's best attributes is just how convenient the location is for visiting Sydney's major attractions, and we are indeed just a short walk from Kings Cross Station which can take you anywhere in Sydney.

As we are a budget hotel, we try to keep the costs down for our guests because we know that at the end of the day, price and value is most important to you. Hence, we do not have air-conditioning as this is a major cost that most hotels pass on to customers in their room rates. We do have ceiling fans in every room, as well as heaters for the cooler months. Another way we keep the price down, is by not having a 24 hour reception, instead reception is open from 7:30am until 11pm when guests mostly require their services. The front doors are closed at 11pm for your security, however your room key always opens the access doors if you are coming in after hours, just like any security apartment block or hotel. We apologize if for some reason this was not communicated to you.

Since March 2010 we now service the rooms every second day as we found this was a service many of our guests required. We are always looking for ways to improve our service for our guests, and this was just another way we can make your stay that little bit more comfortable.

We always take feedback very seriously and we thank you for providing your comments.

My room was situated towards the back of the hotel so I did not notice too much unpleasant noise at night when trying to sleep. I paid just 77$ a night for 9 nights which was good value for money but I found there were too many small negatives associated with the Lodge. Why was there no plug for the bathroom sink? Why is there no air conditioning and just a fan? When I checked in to Springfield Lodge on March 29, it was only about 26 degrees that day but I still found I needed to have the fan on at night to adequately keep the room temperature at a reasonable level. I can only imagine how hot it may be during summer nights. After the first two nights, I did not need the fan anymore. Also, there is no phone book in the room and the housecleaning staff only made my bed once during my stay. This wasn’t too bad as I was able to sleep simply by lying on the top of the bed as it wasn’t too cold at that time of year. The housecleaning only come around every second day though, so it would be nice to have been told this when checking in. Also, you are given a magnetic swipe card to enter your room, not a key. The staff also do not tell you that they close their doors at 11PM each night, so if you went out at night, you would be locked out until they open up at 7AM next day. Again, it would be decent and professional to tell customers this when they check in. The fact this hotel was a minute’s walk away from Kings Cross did not bother me as I went to NSW to visit many other things far away from Kings Cross. Despite the good value for money with room price, I would have to lean toward not recommending this place as the staff do not communicate with you as to their unusual methods of operating.

Thank you for providing your feedback. There are always ways for us to improve our offering by hearing of both positive and negative reviews.

Things such as a 'plugless' sink are as frustrating for hotels as they are for guests, and we of course apologize if your room was missing one. We have since done a check of the entire property to ensure little things like this are not out of place.

Springfield Lodge is a budget hotel, our aim is to make clean and comfortable accommodation available for all travelers. In line with this mission, we have decided that the costs of air-conditioning, of which most hotels pass directly on to the customer in their room rate, are too high to be able to offer the extremely low and good value rates that we do. Each room does have a ceiling fan, as well as a heater for the cooler months.

We have since upgraded our housekeeping service to a full service once every two days due to a large amount of feedback on this topic. We however thank you for your input and are glad to hear this is something our guests require and that we have implemented a positive change.

The doors are closed at 11pm for your security every night, however this does not mean you are locked out of course. Your magnetic swipe card also opens the front door to the hotel so that only guests can enter the lobby after hours.

We thank you for your valid feedback as always.

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights on my first visit to Sydney. Price paid was good in comparison to cost of accommodation elsewhere in Sydney, but still expensive for UK travellers. Rooms were perfectly adequate in size, clean and well suited needs albeit the bedroom furniture was somewhat basic. Regards location, it is well situated close to Kings Cross Station which permits easy and quick access to CBR or Bondi Junc. but it is only just off the most obvious of red light districts. My impression of Sydney was quickly dispelled upon leaving station to be first confronted by groups of "druggies" and then many" girls", but the hotel although only 3 mins walk from it, is in its own little oasis where of no concern. Outside of hotel is of good appearance and forefront is used by many people to enjoy a meal or drink. Would I stay at this hotel again? Yes, probably if rate remained competitive, but no I would never chance being able to recommend to a friend.
